Capsule Review by Christopher M. Coyle on 20/12/01
Genre tags: Fantasy
The Sovereign Stone fantasy campaign was created by renowned artist Larry Elmore and given life by the pen of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman - and while there's currently no d20 Dragonlance setting, it's a more than interesting enough fantasy campaign world to stand on its own merits.

The Codex Mysterium is the most recent suppliment for the Sovereign Stone setting, expanding upon the unique magical system first introduced in the Sovereign Stone Core Rulebook. Instead of being limited by the number of spells they can cast in a single day, the elemental wizards of Loerem can cast as many spells as they can physically channel before passing out from the strain of focusing the powerful energy.

This sourcebook presents more than just prestige classes for elemental mages or a bunch of new spells, it goes into explicit details on how to construct a spell from the ground upwards as well give rules for creating magic items - stressing how truly rare and unique each item really is, making the characters truly appreciate finding such items.

Even if you don't play in the Sovereign Stone campaign world and are just looking for a new twist on magic, this is an invaluable sourcebook. Everything you need to know about spellcasting in Loerem is within the pages of this book, making it well worth the price.
