Capsule Review by Tad Kelson on 05/21/98. Genre tags: none

Today is 5-21-98 and about a month ago I got a very nice present in the mail. It came from Manticore Productions. "A Fist Full of Credits", this being the very latest from Manticore Productions Limited. This is the new Waste World Starter Pack, written by Colin Chapman and Bill King, creator of Waste World.

So eagerly I opened the pages to see what was inside. It contains the new Waste World Lite rules as well as the scenario "A Fist full of Credits". Awesome I thought to myself. What a neat idea to package your rules, stripped down, and include a start to gaming. All in a total of 71 pages chocked full of art, rules and game.

Physically it is the same size as Pinnacle Entertainment’s Deadland’s Dime Novels or the old Interface Magazine. A 8.5 by 11 sheet folded sideways, like an older hand done paper zine might have been. So ease of size and portability is a big plus of this product with myself. Along with the almost nostalgia factor.

There is no ISBN and no price listed for this product. The product code number is 1004. Once in the color cover artwork we find that there are 20 page total of rules. With 32 illustrations scattered throughout. A total of 8 character templates rounds out the rules and character creation section. These templates are taken from the Waste World RPG rule book, reformatted for the Lite rules. In the back of the booklet is a 29 page scenario, A Fist Full of Credits.

So all that you really need is this booklet and some d6 and some d20. That and imagination and off into the Waste World you will go. That is the real key I feel. This is all the rules you need to get started. This condensed version does a credible job of depicting the breadth an depth of the flagship product from Manticore. In looks and in feel it is very much like it’s big brother. Large guns and larger opponents to contend with.

Since I obtained it free I feel this is the deal of the year. Overall a price of $5.00 US would be certainly more than reasonable for a nice high-end quality product such as this. I am looking forward to more from Manticore myself.

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 4 (Meaty)
