I've been playing RPG's for years, and this entire summer I have played D&D3 mostly, and have been itching to do anything but the norm...I wanted to try something new...I never heard of Talislanta before this week when I was stumbbeling aimlessly online, and by chance found this game's intriguing web site. I was impressed by the art, setting, simple game mechanics pdf-preview, the video (Minus the narrators annoying voice), and mostly that it was a non-standard fantasy game that was actually worth looking at.
I picked up the 4th edition at the incredibly low cost of $38.00 compared to what I would have had to spend at least $100 on D&D products to get maybe 3/4 as much usefull game information...Besides being disorganized the book itself is excellent, and a complete RPG as is. Its a hefty amount of reading, though all entertaining, and a breath of fresh air compared to the "borg" stench of the gaming industry know as D20.
I really enjoy the D20 system don't get me wrong, but I love to see fantasy portrayed the way its supposed to be, as awe inspiring, and mystical, not so cookie cutter one size fits all when min/maxxing characters reign supreme! When setting, and roleplaying real characters as drama drives the story. Not stats, feats, and powerfull magic weapons make the game all it is.
I just want more in an RPG...is that to much to ask...I was seeking a new fantasy experiance besides D20, and this is the BEST my eyes have for now beheld. The only contender in the far off horizon would be Earthdawn in my honest opinion. Thank you...
