Fool's Errand is an E-venture published by Privateer Press. It is a downloadable PDF file found at http://www.privateerpress.com/ . It is based in the city of Corvis, in the Iron Kingdoms. The adventure is designed to be after the PC's have completed the adventure "The Longest Night". It is for characters level 3 to 5.
Presentation: Overall, presentation is quite good. The cover shows a steamjack surrounded by adventurers and a monster. It is very good, and instantly sets the tone of the world. The pages are in two columns, with plenty of text. The various artwork and maps in the adventure are all of excellent quality. The page edges are filled by clockwork gears, also another indication of the advanced steam technology found here. The last two pages are not adventure material. One is the standard d20 disclaimer, the other advertises Privateer Press' upcoming products. We also get a sneak peak at the cover of the final adventure in the Witchfire trilogy. Spoilers ahead! The adventure is quite good. The PC's are hired to investigate a warehouse, where they are ambushed by a group of thugs who use a steamjack against the PC's. The PC's are outmatched, but are given an opportunity to scatter before things rapidly get out of hand. Everyone ends up being dropped into the Undercity of Corvis, where they encounter a new monster (the thrullg) and are chased about by the thieves gang. The PC's eventually escape and return to their employer. The PC's should suspect that they have become entangled in an Underworld feud, and have been used as something of a sacrificial assault. There is plenty of background given on a new villain, head of one of the thieve's guilds in the city. He can be used to drag the PC's into a number of altercations if used properly. Sections of the city are detailed for the first time, which also helps make the city come to life and improves the value of this adventure. Stats are given for city guard and typical thieves, which is nice. They also are better done than those in the "Longest Night". The thrullg is an interesting monster. It lives on garbage, but also eats magic. It gains HD as more magic is consumed. It's a very nasty surprise for an unwary group of adventurers! If printed, this adventure would easily run $10. It is an excellent value for the money. I recommend it. | |
