In case you've been living in an RPG-sheltered cave for the last couple of years, you have probably at least heard of Diskwars.

In short, Diskwars is a "miniatures" game that, instead of using miniatures, it uses cardboard disks which come on flats they are punched out of. This makes the game comparatively inexpensive.

The rules are quite simple. Disks move by "flipping," and if they touch other disks, combat ensues. I feel one of the best rules in this game is how they handle missiles. The missile counters are placed on top of an unused disk and dropped over the playing field.

Most disks can take only a single wound before dying, so combat can go fairly quickly.

This is also a collectable sort of game. Different sets of the same army will likely give you some different flats. You build armies by spending points.

This being a fantasy-based game, of course, you have spells. There are level 1, 2 and 3 spells, and they add some fun to the combat of the game and can cover a wide variety of effects. There are a few spells in the basic sets, and the reinforcement packs have more of spells,a s well as new creatures.

The artwork on the disks themselves runs from very good to only mediocre.

In summary, the game is quite fun, fairly easy to learn, and the collectability of it means you can mix and match your armies very well.
