Whether or not you like Deadlands, you have to admit that Pinnacle is going all out to make sure that their flagship product is well supported. Along with a web site that offers goodies every week, except during the summer months, Pinnacle is producing support products like there is no tomorrow. One clever idea that they have are the Dime Novels. These inexpensive modules combine a story to generate atmosphere followed by the module with all the needed ingredients to run the said story. At $4.95 a pop you really can't go wrong, at the very least you will have more NPCs to use in your campaign.

Now here come the spoilers..."Independence Day" is a one evening adventure which takes place in Dodge City during, you guessed it, the fourth of July. Since Kansas is claimed by both the North and South you have all sorts of great possibilities of your characters being harrassed by either a Yankee or Johnny Reb. The PCs are hired by the local marshall, Wyatt Earp, to help maintain law and order for the next couple of days and are assigned a section of the city. Naturally this is the section where all hell, it *is* Deadlands, breaks loose. A Jack the Ripperesque monstrosity is butchering the citizens of fair Dodge, and the PCs pretty much need to figure out who it is and stop them. New critters, villains and NPCs enrich this module as well as the fact that the PCs are in Dodge which should provide them with future adventures.

The dime novel is a great idea which I hope Pinnacles continues. If they maintain the quality, they might start a new trend in supporting material for other RPGs.
