I preordered a set. After opening all the boxes, I still ended up missing 12 flats. Oh well, I will have to order another set... The first thing I noticed was the artwork. All the artists did an amazing job with the artwork. Honestly, I could not say which artwork was the best in the set. This set is a little more "counter heavy" then any of the previous sets. For example, the Xotallus Magi's (4,2,5) "SA" is to place a wand counter on friendly "A" disks. Instead of "A" Xotallus Magi to cast a spell, it may instead remove a wand counter from a disk with a wand that is within 6". A few other examples are Dragon Mother and Grub-lobber.

My only uniques were from the dragon faction (Lord Vyssok and Tyrnask X'ru, Venomous Y'Kara) and Orc faction (Raven the Foretold). The Acolytes and Dwarves finally get their cavalry in the form of Spear Chargers and Batt;e Boar. Majority of the disks had very good "SAs." I saw many disks with the swashbuckler or first blow trait. The missles "SA" on many of the disks have been upgraded to firing fireballs. One of the most interesting ability I saw was the ability of a Darnati Spellfingers. The art depicts a male and female elf holding hands high in the air, combining their magical ability to be able to cast a higher lvl spell.

Not all was good. Some disks had references to other disks that may or may not be part of this set. For example, the Arch Paladin refers to Paladin of Utaavo. It wasn't until I read the little insert that came in each box, did I learn that that particular disk was from Waiqar's Path. The most annoying was the Grub-lobber which is on flat #21. It's "SA" is to drop 3 mind grub counters into an enemy disk. Well, it didn't tell me what those mind grub counters did. It wasn't until I got flat #44 did I find out what those mind grub counters did: Shotham Grb Master (2,4,6) "SA:" Control 1 disk with a mind grub counter on it as in the control spell.

In conclusion, I haven't been this excited about an expansion since "Time of the Void" expansion for L5R CCG (L5R CCG rocks! Too bad the DiskWars's version of L5R sucks). I was planning to stop collecting with this last set of the first story arc but FFG got me rethinking when I looked at Raven the Foretold. I have become more interested in playing the Orc faction with each passing expansion. If one of the central themes in the next story arc deals with Orcs, I will have to give in...
