This is one of the largest Cthulhu campaigns ever developed, and it is one of the best as well. While it does not climb the heights of Masks of Nyarlathotep, it is still very good indeed! Like so many of the best Cthulhu scenarios this one starts out small, with the players dealing with the problems of an arctic expedition. It is only later that the full extent of the plot involving Ithaqua is revealed.
I do have to admit that one of the reasons that I like this book so much is that airships do play a big role in the events, and if you enjoyed the movie "The Red Tent," then you will like this book. Pagan sells a players aid kit that adds much enjoyment to the game, and there is a certain thrill to be holding newsprint, and photo paper in the hand. It adds a certain veresimilitude to the game. This is one of the earlier Pagan releases, but at the time it was one of the largest Cthulhu campaigns ever released, and within these pages you will find the seeds of Pagan's peculiar genius. My only complaint with the scenario is that it seems much easier to release Ithaqua, than to keep him imprisoned. I've always felt that it should be much harder to destroy the world than to preserve it-- but I'm just picking nits now. This is a fine scenario, and it gets an "A."
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
