If you want to buy the Gotham City Sourcebook for information Gotham City itself you are going to bedisappointed. This book has very little information on the locations in Gotham City. If you are looking for a book on the personalities that occupy Gotham City, this is the book for you.
Let me start out by giving you a chapter by chapter breakdown. Chapter one: (Locations & Organisations) This chapter is the only chapter that deals with the city itself. It has brief descriptions on a variety of subjects. From Arkham Asylum to organised crime to businesses that call Gotham home. Chapter two: (Guardians of Gotham) You will find the hero’s of Gotham stats and descriptions in this chapter. They include Bat Man, Night Wing, Oracle (Barbara Gordon), Robin 2, Robin 3, The Huntress (one of my favourites), Bat girl 3, and Azrael. Chapter three: (Friends & Family) Just what it implies you’ll find stats friends and family of the hero’s in this chapter. Some notables are James W. Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and Lt. Harvey Bullock. Chapter four: (Neutral Parties) I don’t know why this chapter was even necessary. Most of these characters could have easily fit into chapters three or five. The characters in this chapter are Anarky, Catwoman, Deathsroke the Terminator, Lady Shiva, Man-Bat, Chief Redhorn, and Talia. Chapter five: (The Many Faces of Evil) This chapter has tons of stats of the scum Gotham. They range from the infamous Joker, Bane, and The Riddler. To the not so infamous Scratch, Stallion, and Trigger Twins. Chapter six: (Tools of the Trade) My favourite chapter. This chapter has the stats descriptions of all the neat toys of the Bat Family. Chapter seven: (Rule Options) New advantages, new skills ,and new dramatic effect cards are covered here. Chapter eight: (Taming Natural Disasters) Rules on how to use natural disasters in your campaign are covered in this chapter. Chapter nine: (Fear Itself) A short adventure involving the Scarecrow. The overall layout of this book is simple and straightforward. The artwork ranges from superb to mediocre. I think they should have taken artwork straight from the comics. The book is overflowing with information on the characters that make up the Gotham City area. It also has a good deal of other information on gear and new rules. They all seem to be accurate with the comics. I have only a few complaints. The first is the title is misleading the book has very little to do with Gotham City itself. Also I would have liked to see some original characters to add to the gaming universe. That is what I loved about the Star Wars supplements they produced is the new and interesting personalities to add to your adventures. That is about all I have to complain about. All in all this is a pretty good read, and even better source of stats. It is a definite buy for anyone playing the DC Universe game. | |
