Genre tags: Fantasy | The Sunless Citadel is the first of eight stand-alone adventures from Wizards of the Coast designed to take a party from 1st to 20th level - and highlight some really nifty features of the d20 System along the way. It's nice to know WotC has a game plan, but what a DM wants to know is: "Is this product worth my time and money?" Stripped to it's essence The Sunless Citadel is a dungeon crawl with a few twists to keep it interesting. It will insert readily into virtually any campaign and comes complete with several ideas for how to get the party interested in the festivities. My group of heroes explored virtually every room in the two levels of the citadel and didn't feel compelled to do so simply out of curiosity or a "need" to complete thier map. Initially sent in to find some missing adventurers, the party was quickly caught up in a war between two humanoid tribes, a search for a very dangerous mascot, the exploration of a long forgotten crypt, and of course the final showdown with the main evil. After all was said and done, the party had gained enough experience to advance to 3rd level, had not obtained an obscene amount of gold or magic, and had met some memorable NPCs. All together we had 25+ hours of solid, fun-filled gaming, and all for a measly 10 american dollars. The bottom line: if you're looking for a character driven story-arc, look somewhere else. This is an old-school dungeon, and a fun one at that. Style: 4 (Classy and well done)Substance: 4 (Meaty) | |
