A collectable minitures game? Huh? Oh. OK sure there's diskwars, but there is something about having a 3d figure on the field that is so....... Cool! Hell why else would we throw $75 at the latest Games Workshop product, Spend hours painting the same Marine,Orc,Lizardman, or what have you some 20 to 30 times, and then get a group of players together to actually play. Imagine the joy of a minis game that is ready to play right out of the box, and where the figures come preassembled and Pre painted. Well Before you rush to www.mageknight.com to place an order, or to your local gaming shop to grab a set of your very own there is a bit more to the product....

Well lets start with the figures, again yes they realy do come pre assembled and prepainted, which makes the game prep time no big concern. The box also comes with a rulebook, special abilities card, 2d6,a comic, and a flexable 18" ruler along with the 10 painted minis... which means you are ready to play after a quick read right out of the box. There is no paperwork to the game (which is unique in a minis game)

To be honest the minis aren't the greatest looking in the world, they do very in quality from ral partha's average metal figs, to plastic milton bradley variety, but the figs are also made from PVC, and the paint is machine applied, meaning they look kinda weak in comparison to the professional paint jobs that most game stores sell, but they do have the advantage of being much more durable. There is no need to buy an expensive foam laden case to protect them, a simple pencil case will do the job.

The stands of the figures are also a neat feature, as all of the character's stats are contained on the stand and stats like Move, Attack, Defense, and Damage are on a wheel on the stand. When a figure takes damage the bottom half of the stand (the wheel) is turned clockwise as many clicks as damage is taken. This changes all or most of the stats in a rather realistic way, and it means no paperwork which makes the game run smoother and faster. Other than this, the rest of the system is very simple 2d6+attack vs opponents defense is the basic combat formula, and if a character has a ranged attack it listed on the base, as well as the character's forward and rear arcs, (so don't grass the stands! ) The game includes 8 factions for it's unique storyline (which is about as exciting as dominia) the real fun is in the gameplay! and like all collectable games the figures are random, and vary in rarity (but don't let that stop you from enjoying the game it's actually very fun) also the game is pretty well priced at $18 for the main box and $6.50 for a 5 figure booster pack (and I've gotten 6 out of one!) you are probably paying less for these figures than for most others (WOTC's Umberhulk mini unfinished costs $9.99 for one figure!)

It's a great pickup game and could end up being the next magic (if people take to it as vehemently.)

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 4 (Meaty)
