Genre tags: Science fiction Horror Post-apocalypse Old West | Pinnacle has a very solid track record with producing excellent supplements and adventures for it's system and Urban Renewal is one of the best I've read. Urban Renewal is an excellent pick for a Hell on Earth adventure to run near Halloween. When the hero's are hired to investigate an apartment building undergoing renovation to discover why workers have disappeared (and in some cases reappeared though not in any living shape), they take up the mantle and are led into a haunted house that they may never escape from. The writing is excellent, with a driving story and puzzles that require more brains than firepower. Any gun crazy posse is bound to have fits trying to work through these areas without blasting holes in the walls while more intellect driven hombres will fit in nicely and be very pleased at the thought and mindwork that has to go into the scenario. Also the book is filled with humorous horror movie references throughout. The events that take place are spooky, creepy and gory in all the right amounts and even if you never run it, Urban Renewal makes for a great read. It also sets up and executes a "haunted house" type scenario very nicely and players of other systems can learn a lot about how to do a scenario like this in a very excellent manner. Urban Renewal is worth every cent and would still be a bargain at $5.00 more. Style: 5 (Excellent!)Substance: 5 (Excellent!) | |
