Genre tags: Modern day Comedy Espionage Conspiracy | It can be assumed that everyone has some passing knowledge of Steve Jackson Games and their trouble with the Secret Service, the law suit that followed and SJ Game's victory so all of it will be glossed over. Hacker is the card game that came after, stemming from gamer's requests to SJ Games to make a game based off of their SS Raid and it is a winner. Each player takes the part of a hacker, attempting to gain access and control the systems of the net. Using a style based on the Illuminati card game, the net is first constructed of individual systems and indials. Players then begin trying to be the first to control 12 systems by hacking, phreaking and attacking both the systems and other players. Each player during their turn may either attempt to hack or skip their turn and gain an upgrade to their computer. Upgrades provide bonuses to hack, take away from the danger of hacking systems with ICE (intruder counter measures) or give them more hacks per turn. As the game nears the end, deals between players start appearing (as Shared Victories are allowed), players start Crashing systems important to their rivals and the players with the powerful action cards begin to play them allowing for an increasingly difficult battle as the net becomes more and more congested and systems are crashing left and right, cutting off direct routes to important systems. Hacker is an excellent game and is highly recommended if you can find a copy of it. Style: 5 (Excellent!)Substance: 5 (Excellent!) | |
