SnarfQuest | ||
In 1983, Dragon magazine started a fantasy strip that was three pages a month called SnarfQuest. Written and drawn by fantasy artist Larry Elmore, it detailed the adventures of a zeetvah named Snarf (not to be confused with a certain Snarf in the Thundercats animated series) along with his companions Aveeare the robot, Telerie Windyarm, and a host of bad guys like Suthaze the wizard. SnarfQuest continued until 1989, when it ended with a cliffhanger. A collection of the first three years' worth of strips came out, but until now there was no complete collection. This graphic novel changes that fact. There is only one flaw in this collection--the reprint of the story that pushes the SnarfQuest series five years in the future. Originally, it was in color, but in the new collection, it's in black and white, and the lettering sufers a wee bit. I found it annoying to read some of the text, but it's a minor quibble at best. Overall, this collection should be a valued addition to anyone's comic library--especially if you are a fan of Elmore's work. This man is a legend, and it's good to have this collection for new readers to enjoy. Also, in case you didn't know, Games Unplugged has a new SnarfQuest series--in full color no less--so pick up this collection while you can, and enjoy the adventures of Snarf and friends!
