Genre tags: Fantasy Diceless | Everyone has considered wargaming at one time or another, however if you are like me you become intimidated by it. First you have to buy the wargame you want and study the complex rules and then go out and buy the figures and paint them. It takes alot of time and patience to wargame so that's why I never really got into it. Recently on a trip to a local Neutral Ground I discovered a wargame called Diskwars. At first I wondered what it was and one of the salespeople told me it was a wargame. A wargame in a small box? I decided to give it a try and bought the undead army starter. When I got home I was treated to disks that were sporting beautiful artwork depicting each unit. There are also diffrent size disks (A dragon disk would be greater than a elven archer disk) and there are also counters for missile fire and spells. I began to read the rules and found out that they were very simplified and easy to learn. Each player decides on a scenario and then assigns a point value to start off with, just like other wargames (the bigger the point value, the bigger the battle). Then they place their armies on the tabletop and wage wars. Each unit has a movement value and when they move they flip the unit end over end that many times. Combat is also very simplified. Each disk has a attack, defense and toughness value. If your attack and the attack exceeds the toughness value the unit is killed. There is also carry over damage and missile fire which makes the game most enjoyable and fast paced! There are supplements planned for diskwars and I hope to get my hands on them soon so I can review such quality products. There are also going to be armies for Deadlands (called Range Wars) and there is even talk of a Legends of the Five Rings diskwars set! Trust me, if you want to get into wargaming and don't want to do all the work of painting minatures... go out and buy Diskwars.. The first collectible disk game.
