Genre tags: Modern day | Imagine a world where you are a Secret Master, controling the lives of individuals to further your own goals. These individuals, however, are powerful in their own right, and they believe they are the real Masters. Little do they suspect they are but mere Pawns in a greater game. Welcome to the world of Mystick Domination. Mystick Domination is a Premium Card Game--meaning you don't have to spend money to get booster after booster just to find the cards you need. All you need to purchase is the Basic and Power decks, and you'll have a complete set with some extras. It's a fairly new idea in the world of CCGs, and it just might work. The game itself is based on the Tarot, and you have the four different suits (Cups, Wands, Pentacles, and Swords) which represent different aspects of the game. Also included are the Major Arcana which represent events in the game. The object of the game is to get the most Victory Points in the game, and to do that, you must have a Pawn to either challenge an opponent's Pawn of equal or lower rank or challenge the main Power Pool. Either way, the challenged must have Power points in play. In order to challenge, perform what is called a Fate Draw--drawing a number of cards equal to your Pawn's influence and laying them on the Mystic Cross found on your playmat. For every suit that matches your Pawn's suit, you get a success, and each success gets one Power from either the Pool or the opponent's Pawn. It is also important to note that Major Arcana cards are important here, and you must resolve them first, which could make for some interesting situations. The packaging of Mystick Domination contains two 39 card decks, two playmats, a tutorial, and a rulebook. Unlike most tutorials, this one is well done, and really helps out--almost to the point where you wouldn't need the rulebook. The art on the cards is taken from classic paintings--the significance being that the Secret Masters are old, and don't believe that anything changes. They see the modern world as they have hundreds of years ago. The flaws of this game are the messed-up page count (page 3 and 4 is printed twice), and, surprisingly enough, it's strength of not having to buy boosters. The 78-card starter costs $19.99--a wee bit pricey, but when one considers that after spending 40 dollars to get both decks, you have a complete set...well, the complaints should die down fairly quickly. The question, though, will this Premium Card Game survive? The answer depends on Anoch Game System's support of Mystick Domination. It's a good game, and hopefully the support will be forthcoming. If you're tired of having to spend a lot of cash on CCGs, you should take a look at Mystick Domination. It's one of the better card games out there, and it couldn't hurt to try it.
