A Murder For Beltane is a wonderful modern mystery novel with
horror/gothic overtones, entertaining in it's own right but equally inspiring as a resource for either horror rpg games or for LARPers.
Rhiannon Beltane is a vampire novelist, who becomes the focal point of the story when an obsessed fan begins leaving blood-drained corpses as gifts. Sandra Brewer is a new novelist with wonderful talent, spinning a great mystery yarn which anyone can understand and enjoy (even those without phd's in criminal science). Best of all, however, is her skill at characterization, creating a cast of memorable individuals: from the completely off-beat Trystan, who sleeps in a coffin, enjoys taking bloodbaths, and performs all kinds of perverted acts with females and animals; to Righdhonn, the family mercenary who fought at Agincourt. Murder for Beltane excels as a rpg mystery adventure, or characters can be lifted for use in your campaign. While obviously Vampire:The Masquerade comes to mind, I used the plot as a setting and adventure for an AD+D campaign. The heroes play "welcomed" humans, members of the town who are aware of the family secret and who serve as their agents in the world. A great novel and/or resource material for roleplayers and LARPers alike, Murder for Beltane is a solid addition to your library.
