I'd be the first to admit that where Ars Magica is concerned, I do
have a soft spot. Yet when I picked up the 4th Edition book, I was a
wee bit sceptical. Not without reason, seeing what White Wolf did to
the 3rd edition, trying to tie it in with their World of Darkness
series.
Well, Atlas have moved away from that setting entirely. Whole sections have been revamped, most notably the magic, combat and character generation. A number of the existing rules have definately been tightened up, I certainly couldn't find a way of rules hacking and trust me when I say I did try!. I know that ArM is not everyone's cuppa but there are enough people out there that love, me included. For a more indepth look at the differences between 3rd and 4th Ed., you really need to go look at Lydia Leong's essay on the subject in the ArM archives. Don't ask what the address is 'cos I've forgotten but it can be reached through Alta Vista, keywords MAGICA + PROJECT + REDCAP.
Ciao dudes and dudettes ..
