Good Bye Laura Croft, Britannia needs my help to save it.

Ultima IX: Ascension promises to be everything anyone hopes for in a virtual reality -- 3-D -- Roleplaying game for your computer. Of all the 3-D games out there, Ultima IX is the best according to present Technology.

For those who are familiar to the Ultima Series, this is the ninth and last installment in a Novology. It all began with Mondain, Minax, and Exodus. Then came the Quest of the Avatar, and finally, the Guardian.

Instead of preventing the Guardian from invading Britannia, the Guardian already did. The Guardian destroyed the eight shrines of Virtue and raised great Columns of Corruption. Through these corrupting columns, the Guardian managed to conquer Britannia at the most basic level: the citizens' thoughts.

The people of Britannia are enslaved by thoughts of great evil. The Britons don't care, are unjust, proud, unhonorable, unloving, fearful, and cannot recognize truth. When you appear as the Avatar, your mission is to free the people from their evil thoughts. Once freed, they will start governing themselves again.

Through a series of questions you can become one of eight professions: Mage, Fighter, Bard, Tinker, Druid, Paladin, Shepherd, and Ranger. You start with some equipment and must defeat your first Wyrmguard. Others guard the eight dungeons with impunity.

Overall, the Virtual World of Britannia is imersive, like most 3-D games. you can look in all directions, swim, move, and fight. You can also toggle from a behind-the-Avatar view to First-Person view.

I highly recommend this game to all Britannians everywhere. And if you aren't familiar with Ultima: get the Ultima Collection, which contains games 0-8, or get Ultima Online. Both will introduce you to the world of Britannia. The Collection will allow you to venture as part of Britannian Mythology, and UO will introduce you to it.

Enjoy the game!
