Big eyes small mouth has been one of the most surprising hits (at least in my area) a small digest bound set of rules that give you everything you need to run an RPG in the genre of Anime (Well OK, you really need the big robots cool starships suppliment to do mecha right, but still) for the price of a large Pizza you get one hell of an RPG, and of course as Big Eyes Small Mouth's populaity grows, It should come as no big shocker to see Guardians of order produces a wave of games based on established anime using their patanted Tri Stast system (which is in it's pureset form in Big Eyes Small Mouth!)
Dominion is the second outing in the line of establised anime games(Sailor moon of course being first) Unlike the previous game (sailor moon) Dominion takes the Tri Stat system and applies it to a grittier form of the genre relying more on skills as opposed to advantages or powers Dominon is an ideal example of how to "power down" a big eyes small mouth campaign for a cyberpunkish/ real world anime game (I know anime is far from real world but some are more realistic than others!) As can be expected the are is excelent (conisedring it's taken directly from Masume shiro's OVA series, with no "Original art work" and a set of color plates to give you a good look at the main characters in the story. And just as in Sailor moon an excellent rundown of the storyline complete with translation notes and story arcs makes this a nifty read for any animaniac or gamer who has an anime fetish on the side. While to be honest only covering a 4 episode OVA makes Dominion a bit sparse on the playability side, (the folks at Guardians of order do their best to alieviate this), but it's still a little hard to see endless possibilities after the main story line, this book does give you a wealth of material to run a gritty anime campaign. And Masume shiro does have other Manga/anime that do work more for RPGing (Ghost in the shell anyone). Also the book gives you a complete mecha system (compatible with Big Robots Cool Starships!) so for $20 you get one hell of a good look at the Tri Stat system and how it could apply to a more cyberpunk setting. I highly recomend this to any anime gamer who hasn't picked up BESM, and loves Anime Like Megazone 23,Appleseed, Ghost in the shell, or well Dominion!
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
