The Shogunate is a sourcebook for the Waste World RPG. Actually the first sourcebook for the Waste World RPG. And I must say, it is easily one of the best sourcebooks I have read for any RPG. The material is dense, but very well laid out and informative.

The Shogunate explains the history, politics, and factions of this sprawling Metrozone on the post-apocalyptic war-torn world of Avernus. Most of the major clans and factions are named and described with options for many more and differences left to the Narrator.

I would recommend this sourcebook for anyone wishing to use a Japanese feudal society in a high-tech/post-apocalyptic environment. Most of the book is information and very little are actual stats for the game. The only down-side for this book is the Narrator's section has been shorted.

The art throughout the book is okay, with four double-sided color pages in the middle with character templates. The rest of the art is black and white. This suits me just fine, I would much rather pay for good information and no art than a book with little information and too much art.

There is no index in the book, nor is there a table of contents, and the Narrator's section is shorted, those are about the only problems I had with the book.

The best parts to the book are reading the extremely detailed world information and the not always relevant short stories at the beginning of each chapter. This is a must for Waste World players planning to visit The Shogunate, and definitely a good sourcebook for others interested in Japanese feudal society mixed with post-apocalyptic technology.
