Jon Otterman: Spell Caster
It might be a once in a life time comment, but I have not seen a fat balding middle aged man look great as a miniature. Jon Otterman is a surprisingly animated miniature that can give several different looks depending on how it is painted. While it is dubbed spell caster, the miniature is clearly clerical in nature.
The details on the figure are well done, without being too much. The tankard on the belt is a nice touch and could be done in pewter or leather equally well. The dagger while not ornate has a very detailed scabbard. The robes of Jon are layered with an outer garment and then an inner, they have a rope belt around the waist and clasp for the shawl across the shoulders What had me taken by this piece was the fact that depending on how it was painted it could be two entirely different miniatures. Firstly the robes could be painted (brown for the outer and a hemp color for the inner) and then weathered to make the miniature look more like a charlitan or simply not an apt mage/cleric. Paint the cross in the figure's hand as if it were worn and wooden and that should clinch it. The positioning of the figure suggests two things, as the above it could be overly dramatic meant to fool the eye of onlookers. Or it could be part of my second take, in that it is a highly experienced traveling priest about to law waste to undead (or other similar nasty). Paint up the robes nicely (deep brown outer and slightly off white for the inner) without much weathering and clean then paint the cross in a gold or silver should do it. It is great the Reaper produces a nice range of miniatures that have a wide range of personalities for a great price. Jon Otterman is a good clerical figure as always well worth the whopping $2.50.
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
