Okay, okay, maybe (definitely!) I was generous for giving the artwork in this module an "Average" rating. After all, while it's easy to read, there are a few typos and the artwork is....."sparse" is a kind way of putting it. But hey, for $8 you can't complain too much, and it was a darn good module overall!
How did it play? Well, for starters, I helped the players along by showing some grade-Z action movies before the game. This got them in the mood. (And yes, the beer helped somewhat. But don't try that at home unless your legal! And if you get caught, you didn't get the idea from me....) Then we created their characters, using the Extreme Vengeance rulebook, which took about 15 minutes. Even with all that beer, or perhaps because of it(?) Then we played. Extreme Vengeance is a *very* good game to play when your kinda sloshed. (BUT YOU DIDN'T HEAR THAT FROM ME, remember?) For one thing, the rules are so minimal, you don't need to look them up much, if at all, and you can generally bull your way through. Two, it practically begs for inside jokes and bad puns. Three, even the most socially retarded gamer tends to get more in the spirit of things when mildly buzzed, and Extreme Vengeance is a game you have to be "in the spirit" for, no pun intended. I won't give away the plot (such as it is), but I will say it adds a cool concept to the rules that I will make a staple of all my Extreme Vengeance games, that being the ability to add to the bad guys Guts rating when thwarted by the players (or, in the module's example, dies because of the heroes. Don't ask.) Warning: Extreme Vengeance is a "light" RPG suitable for a few adventures here and there. "Die and Die Again" comes as close to a long-term campaign as this game can get without being way too ridiculous. As long as you keep that in mind (and keep a reliable hangover remedy nearby), the game is a blast. Good enough, I'd say, to merit running sober occasionally. But you DID NOT hear that from me, 'kay?
