Having purchased the Basic Edition, I decided to upgrade. DPI does not have a secure ordering form, but this was immaterial as I had to post in my back covers anyway. I honestly have to say that I have no complaints about their level of service, and would in fact speak glowingly of it if I could without making it sound like they'd paid me to. Suffice to say that I'm in Australia, and I'm happy to buy stuff through them again. 'Nuff said.
The Masters Edition is more than twice the thickness of the Basic Edition. It has been updated to fix errata found since first printing, and many references that before referred to paragraphs cut from the Basic Edition now make sense. There are many extra options for creating characters, including the ability to play non-humans if the Referee allows them, and the full equipment list not only allows you to start with extra goodies but gives a clearer picture of the two levels of technology in the world - high tech for the rich and retro-tech for the rest. While this may not sound like much, there is a world of difference between playing with snippets of a character generation system and the whole thing. And there's one other thing the Masters Editions have that the Basic Editions don't. An index. While I can't recommend the Basic Edition Players Handbook, I regard this book as being worth my money.
