First off, let me say that i truly love the World of darkness,
as well as the entire White Wolf company, and rpg systems. So all in all i'm probly a little biased, but what the hell...it IS a game.
And Wraith is one hell of a game! While a "wraith" are not as powerfull as say, "werewolves", the amount of emotion you put in this game is more than double what you put in it's WOD counterparts. - Games can range from, epic journeys into the innermost sanctoms of the "shadowlands",or protecting the lover you left behind after your untimely death, or you can go on a good-ol-fashioned haunting...terrorizing droves of unsuspecting mortals [mu ha ha ha:)] With "arcanoi" [powers...disiplines to us vampire players] that range from "spooking" things like, moving small objects, cold chills, whispers...the whole nine..all the way to my personal fav... "puppetry"! This is where you acually take control of a mortal [or un-mortal like the undead]. This power can range from slight "jerk" movements [like making someone trip or slap someone] to removing a body's soul and completly possesing it [mu ha ha again!!]. But in wraith you don't just inhibit the land of the living [THIS IS WHERE IT GETS CONFUSING] see, the "shadowlands" is the dwelling of "wraiths" ,which are sprits who could not pass on to "oblivion"[hell] or "transendance" [heaven] [maybe they had unfinished buisness or maybe they just somehow got left behind]but....the shadowlands ,in all reality, ARE the real world! The two co-exisist through a layer of dissbelief called "the shroud". Also the shadowlands, are a copy of ever thing that exists or has exisisted ,like old buildings from the earliest days are on the bottom and even though they're not real anymore, they still are real in the shadowlands...like a big pancake of technology. Also everything in the shadowlands is made of "plasm" ...and what is plasm? Other wraiths!! Yes money, weapons,EVERYTHING is recycled souls...which....hmmm well i donb't want to much away:) but lets just say it's a really darker force than any other WOD badguys:) OK, so i've when over the plot and the good stuff...oh the bad stuff! Well, for one like EVERY other white wolf book it explains alot but... just explains a little on some things that are optional [but soooo cool like doomslayers..."spectre hunters"] soooo you end up not buying one book, but atleast 4 or 5. But hell, it's worth it anyways:) Well, the only other bad thing i see is the inclusion of wraith in the WOD. I mean, it's probly my favorite now, but it's soooooooo hard putting a wraith in with other WOD players. Mainly because it uses a point of pathos ["blood pool" in vampire] to just softly utter a word in the "skinlands" [the land of the living]....and even more to just appear for just a second as a "ghost". But hell you CAN ALWAYS bend the rules, like make the others be able to communicate with thw wraith mentally or something. Which is such a good a idea, because i'm not even going to start about how much a wraith could help a vampire.....just posses them and *poof* dinner for mr.vampire!!! Sooooo, is wraith worth the 28.00? Yes, but sadly it's not for everone. If you like the "impossible to hurt" element of "werewolf" you might not care for it, but if you like the "underdog", having to use you brain instead of dice, pick up a copy of wraith, you won't be dissapointed.
Style: 5 (Excellent!)
