Ever wanted to know what a "C" Martial Arts Sweeps Critical was? Probably not. But, if you had the range between a 01-05 (Clever Strike exposes foe's garment tags and washing instructions) to 100 ("Bring foe down with your knee under his back. You break his back and paralyze him from the shoulders down. You take a deadly looking stance") you'd want to know the difference, correct? Pretty much the difference between Bruce Campbell and Bruce Lee.
Arms Law contains all of the critical charts you probably will ever need - Scimitar, Sword Sword, and Sling to name just a few. Also, there are a lot of options for using Arms Law without RMSS - basically, a primer on combat the RMSS way, and a lot of tips for converting it to whatever system you currently use. You also get more combat options for RMSS, and more of those charts we all know and love. The bulk of the book, however, is the Critical Charts. While they are not particularly good reading (although some of them ARE quite funny - the low-end "E" Critical for a Krush weapon is: "Destroy one of foe's silly decorations") they do add a lot to the average procedure of roleplaying combat: "Okay, roll to hit. You hit. Okay, roll damage. Six points. Okay, he has 52 remaining. He swings back…" The layout and look of the book is typical for RMSS books. 3 hole punched, black and while illustrated, pretty standardized. No index this time - but still a pretty good Table of Contents, and interior charts. Despite the tips to the contrary, Arms Law is more a book for RMSS than anything else. Less advanced RPGs really aren't going to benefit greatly from the complex charts and options in this book. However, those seeking meatier fare in their games will absolutely be pleased with this - pleased enough, perhaps, to warrant switching over to RMSS.
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
