Oh. Oh My.
Well, it had to happen. The Ugly duckling of the Year of the Lotus. Yeah, Land of Eight Million Dreams was semi unfinished, and was horridly edited...but it was at least playable. World of Darkness Tokyo.....is....bad. Or, at the very least, didn't live up to my expectations. I wanted hard info on the battles between the Resistance and the Forces of Yu Huang....i wanted info on SF0's activity in the area, and perhaps a team of repute. What i got... 3 wraiths. 3 Kuei Jin, a bunch of mages, a bunch of shapeshifters, 2 Hsien (Who have AMAZING portraits. GREAT way to figure out what the various Kamuii look like)). And absolutely nothing on how they politically work together. Now....not to say there aren't gems. The nightmare Japans lurking in Ueno park, not to mention the concept of the Dreaming Futures League itself is simply wonderful. The Effigy Lords are a joy for a twisted enough storyteller. But the rest.....eh. Besides the shoddy supernatural info, you get a decent look at the history of Tokyo, and a modern look at the city. Not great...but alright. Overall, this is a book that will take work. a LOT of work. But i have a feeling, deep down, in my storytelling gonads, that there's something workable here. something marvelous and wonderful that i'm just not seeing. I'm running a one shot based around the effigy lords so....i dunno, perhaps i'll see it afterwards..but untill then, it's just not there.
Style: 2 (Needs Work)
