The Lighthouse, for TSR's Alternity: Star*Drive, by David Eckelberry
This adventure module comes in the traditional format, staple bound paper in a tri-fold cardstock cover that contains internal graphics important to running the adventure. At $13.95 it seems a bit pricey but it can be found or traded for at more reasonable prices (got mine on sale 1/2 price). The cover is eye-catching and the internal graphics are adequate. Sidebars and text boxes add detail and flavor to the main text, some are "in character" bits on the background, others are straight rules and GM information. The material is well written enough to keep the reader at least mildly interested in finishing the whole thing and that's better than most modules. The Lighthouse is a mobile city/space station. A port of major trade that moves between star systems on a regular schedule providing diplomacy, and tourism as well. Originally built for some higher cause religious reason, the Lighthouse was refurbished and recommissioned to bring the communities of frontier space closer together. There is a great deal of intrigue, and secrecy aboard the starship-station. It has accommodations for ships of all sizes, its own military capacity and a state of the art drive system. There are loads of adventure opportunities on Lighthouse, even beyond those detailed or even suggested in this supplement. In fact, there is too much to do on Lighthouse and most players will end up dealing with one, or one at a time, of the following: diplomats and government agents, capitalists and colonists, officials and corruption, exploration and exploitation. I would recommend this supplement to gamers of any scifi and space oriented super hero campaign but not at full price, unless it fills an exact niche in your gaming. (XXVc and Star Frontiers players take note, the Lighthouse is constructed vertically, decks are bulkheads, matching the construction of starships in both of these games.)
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
