The Inside Scoop on Gaming

I recently went over the reviews for the previous versions of the Fuzion system. Many poo-pooed the system for being too much of a munchkin's game.

Not anymore.

The current verion of the rules are more tuned to a generic sense of role-playing. They are better organized and many of the items from earlier versions are now considered totally optional. The current version no longer includes the superpowers, martial arts, mental powers or mecha "plug-ins" that previous versions did (they actually come from Champions: the New Millenium; the original web rules were actually a port from that game). This was definitely a good play Hero Games' part (I know, I know, R. Talsorian Games had a hand in the system, but forget them. They abandoned us, man! They went PART TIME. For all I care, until they put out something else, they don't exist...for now, anyways.).

The main reason Hero Games didn't include these plug-ins is clear.

You can now find better versions of these plug-ins elsewhere on the Web. Just ask the likes of Christian Conkle, and Web company STUDiO 187.

That brings us to the system's best aspect: its "screwability." The Fuzion Group has actually brought us a game that can be easily screwed with; you can have as many or as few attributes as you want; as many skills as you want; as much as little cool stuff as you want. And all you need are the rules and (maybe) only one or two plug-ins from the Web. I believe personally (and don't start flaming me here, gang, I'm not trying to be, as it were, "sacreligious.") that Fuzion MIGHT eventually unseat GURPS as the all-time greatest generic system.

And did I mention that Fuzion is free?
