Capsule Review by Sandy Antunes on 10/13/97. Genre tags: none

My first thought was that this was a Traveller-esque product, and I mean that in the sense of old, nostalgia-filled Traveller. A boxed set, LofE contains 6 dice and three books-- the Sector Guide, the Gamemaster Guide, and the Campaign Guide. Plus a Sec tor map, character sheets with archetypes, and some picture cards. Lots o' stuff.

In many ways, this is almost a stand-alone Star Wars set, and the setting is ideal for doing that most dared of deeds-- actually overthrowing the empire! Focusing on political and social interaction moreso than combat or flying, this set really adds a ne w direction for Star Wars players to adventure. Besides, I loved the back copy of the box (read it, and see why...)

The Campaign Guide is nicely done, with nice adventures tucked in the back of the book. The Sector Guide was, well, a trifle dull but full of lots of seeds for adventures and encounters. And the Gamemaster Guide lays out a lot of the base setting. This set would definitely make it easy for GMs to set up a campaign.

My main quibble would be the lack of a table of contents or index, and indeed I marked it down in "Style" harshly for this. It's a good read, but hard to find something you read earlier unless you have a perfect, ummmm... .what's that word... Memory! Yes , a perfect memory.

It's definitely worth looking at as inspirational material and to set up a new campaign.
