Chobolo is a game where you play the role of a wizard who
is striving to attain the power of the Avatar known as
Chobolo. To win, you must capture the Avatar and proceed to
destroy your opponent's tower.
Chobolo is a customizable board game, giving the gamer the opportunity to customize everything down to the land pieces he or she will use in the game, making it a wonderful strategy game. As the Wizard, you gather up Spell Chips to use in your Spell Pool. In order to cast a spell, you must have your Spell Stack in the exact order that the spell requires, or you can't cast the spell. This increase the level of strategy, and makes the gamers think ahead as they move. The different abilities of their Warriors has a nice variety, along with the bonuses of levels as well. Chobolo is a nice two player game, but the real treat is the multiplayer aspect of the game, as one never knows where alligences are formed and betrayals strike next! Sadly, typos plague the rulebook, the land pieces are too small--the player's pieces barely fit the hexes; the tower pieces should be color coordinated, and why is the fire wizard a YELLOW piece? The art is mostly bland, which makes one wonder would it make it better if it were in color? And finally, there's the title Chobolo...does it make anone else think about a Final Fantasy Bird? Fortunately, the good outweighs the bad, making Choboo a good game to have. The copies that this reviewer received were prototypes, so hopefully they'll fix the problems, and the newer releases will be even more exciting to play.
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
