Wow.
I'll just say that again. Wow. Okay, now that's over with, this book is the final part in a trilogy, and unlike the novels of certain fantasy authors (no names named, but their names rhyme with "Slanthony" and "Meist"), this series end with the third book. There won't be a Darkness Revealed: My Pet Cockroach Farm Attacks Andrew Bates. (Hmm, that might actually be fun...) No, this is the very dramatic climax to a three-part adventure series for the sci-fi RPG Trinity, and for those who haven't yet picked this game up, I recommend doing this... I'll review this book in two parts, mainly because the book is divided into two parts....
Heaven through Iron Gates by Bruce Baugh.Hm. Okay, first of all, I liked this part. I really did. Unlike the previous books, I didn't have to rewrite the conclusion or the events in the slightest, apart from one teensy weensy little problem. Too fast. Yes, you heard me. (Them there's fightin' words...) Too fast-paced, and as a result of this, a little jerky in the tempo. I had to slow the story down a little, to give it the proper John Grisham-In-Space feel I found appropriate, but otherwise just about everything worked out okay.I didn't even have to change the conclusion, although I did give my players a hint as to who that enigmatic OpNet hacker had been all along, without confirming anything... So, all in all, a solid 3 (of 5).
Climbing to Tartarus by Richard E DanskyThis is mainly the part that got my juices flowing. It starts out as a relatively simple and calm recon mission, and turns into a story that could have made a very good novel all on its own. It managed to keep my players on their toes all the time, even though it was divided into a large number of game sessions, but in the end, they actually applauded. Not me, no, the climax.I have honestly never read a WW adventure so well thought out, so well paced, so...allright, I'll stop sucking up now, before Dansky gets all bigheaded. In short, I'd recommend this book for the second chapter alone, that's how good it is. Well, I hope I haven't come off as too brown-nosed, after all, I didn't particularly like the first two books in the series, but I did like this one. So, until next time, Make Mine Trinity... (Shameless plug) Aberrant Sacrifice is coming out soon...
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
