The Devil's Tower trilogy concludes, and the Big Secret is revealed!!!
For those of you who haven't caught up with the present, the Devil's Tower Trilogy was the buildup to the great revelation of the Big Secret, a mystery the people of Deadlands kept for two long years. During GenCon '98, the Big Secret was revealed with the release of Deadlands: Hell on Earth. Before that, however, there was a preview in the Fortress o'Fear. Fortress o'Fear is the final installment of the Devil's Tower trilogy. The chase for the Heart of Darkness started in the City o'Gloom, moved on to the City of Lost Angels, and finally brings us to Devil's Tower--a monolith of rock which happens to be home to a peculiar race of crossbred aliens, and is also the setting which will decide the fate of the Weird West! Fortress o'Fear is a boxed set which gives us all the details of the Devil's Tower--a place surrounded by mystery since the Deadlands worldbook (the Quick and the Dead) was released. The set also includes two booklets: One gives us the crossbreed alien's technology, the other is a journal from a visitor from 2094--the setting for Deadlands: Hell on Earth. The adventure itself was good--although the mix of sourcebook and adventure was disappointing. This reviewer would rather have had a separate sourcebook and adventure, but that may have raised the price, which brings us to our next complaint--30 dollars is pretty steep for something as slim as Fortress o'Fear. Overall, the long wait is over--the Big Secret is finally revealed, and it was worth the wait! Pick up a copy of Fortress o'Fear, and find out the answers for the secrets yourself!
