Recently finished up the third book in the Bloodwars Trilogy set in the Planescape setting from TSR, Inc. written by J. Robert King. The Trilogy consists of Blood Hostages Abyssal Warriors Planar Powers Primarily concerned with the adventures of 2 characters Aereas, a human male, and Nina, a Gharra, and their discovery of the Multiplanar aspects of the AD@D worlds and specifically the existence of Sigil, the City of Doors ruled over by the Lady of Pain. These are all elements central to the Planescape setting as it were. Since these are the first books placed in this setting ; J. Robert King has free rein does a fine job in his descriptions. There are not enough detail about the new races that inhabit Sigil to suit me, such as the Tieflings, but still there is some evocation of the wonder and possibilities inherent in a interdimensional city setting that I have always enjoyed. Plot: a bit weak to begin with. The two main characters travel through a closet and end up in Sigil :) There they meet Boffo, a gnome acquaintance of their Father's. Things move swiftly from here on and I will not spoil the action for you readers. I love the Planescape Setting. I did purchase the box set of it, wish there were more creatures described, and find it totally fascinating. The books are as strong, as any I have read from TSR, and stand up well to the Dragonlance Series for example. I feel they are very close to the skill and delightfulness of the Ravenloft books. If you are running or are planning to run a Planescape campaign certainly go out and buy them. I got mine at B. Daltons with my discount card so they are certainly affordable If those are not settings to your liking then I would suggest picking something else up with your hard-earned cash.
