This is another exciting addition to the best RPG on the market.
'Children of Lilith' is the first Tribe 8 Cycle book. In normal gaming terms that means that it is the first full length adventure book set in the Vimary area. Four adventures set in a period of about a year are the focal point of 'Children of Lilith'. Overall, it is an exciting and wonderfully readable supplement to Tribe 8. In it a new Fatima, Lilith comes to the Fallen (the suggested PC faction) and generally shakes up the game setting. There is a lot of meat in this book above and beyond the adventure that makes it a valuable resource to Weavers (newer and older). In short, this is a spectacular product. First, I'll discuss the bad. There are still a good number of typos found throughout the book. However, this is the lowest count of errors in any of the Tribe 8 books in a while... and most of the errors are spelling mistakes that a spellcheck missed. The typos are easily ignored and do little to distract from the usefulness of this book. Another gripe I had is that the first adventure (Joshua's legacy) seems a bit forced in my opinion. I can understand why this was done, because the PCs need to take a number of bold first steps to really set the ball rolling in this supplement, but I have never been overly keen as a GM/Weaver in ram-rodding PCs into something. On the plus side, the 'Children of Lilith' does give a lot of Weaver advice for alternate approaches and outcomes. In fact, this is one of the many strengths of the book. Yes, at times it does seem to force the hand of the Weaver, but it redeems itself by showing how else the Weaver may use the events and info to better suit different tastes. Bravo on Jason Prince's and Jim Cotsios's part for realizing that PCs are a dynamic factor to an adventure book, and helping out when things inevitably get changed. There are a number of other things I like about 'Children of Lilith.' First and foremost, this is as much an adventure as it is a setting companion. Lots and lots of info on new and old sites, new and old NPCs and general info that expands on the Vimary setting are included. In fact, if you plan on running 'The Enemy of my Enemy' series of adventures from the Weaver's Assistant, then I HIGHLY suggest reading 'Children of Lilith' before you do so. Keep in mind that 'Enemy of my Enemy' is supposed to be a prelude to the events within 'Children of Lilith.' The artwork, as always, is spectacular. The cover gives a few hints as to the events of 'Children of Lilith', but doesn't reveal too much... and is beautiful to boot (my favorite Tribe 8 cover thus far). The interior art is, well, spectacular. The art is nice and consistent with the text as well as consistent with previous products. There is a real sense of continuity from the beginning to the end as well as from book to book. Major NPCs get full page spreads and minor ones still get treaty wonderfully (though there is an interesting Scottish theme to the NPCs. maybe Lilith is originally from merry old England :) ). The art makes this wonderful product the best it can be. Finally, like I said before, the adventures themselves look to be a blast to run as well as to play in. This book is as GM/Weaver friendly as possible, with a number of hints and tidbits of advice on how to handle a whole host of problems that may come up. Suggestions on the use of synthesis is all throughout 'Children of Lilith', a great aid to any Weaver still a little unsteady with the magic of Tribe 8. Plus, the adventures (at least after the first) seem to be open-ended enough to allow the PCs to select their own destiny as Lilith's role and fate become more and more apparent. Final analysis; 'Children of Lilith' is great. Dream Pod 9 said they would start the storyline off with a bang, and I agree whole-heartedly. I would suggest this cycle for experienced PCs, but the book will be handy to any experience level Weaver... since the stuff in 'Children of Lilith' can easily be used in other adventures (or even to just set as a backdrop of events not directly involving the PCs). I am very happy with this product.
Style: 5 (Excellent!)
