Dangerous Prey was the last book put out by Pariah press before The WHispering Vault game was turned over to Ronin Publishing. Dangerous Prey has been put together to help devise the most in-depth, twisted villains possible for the stalker's hunts.

It includes details for:

  • developing the three separate stages of the unbidden --the beast, the stragner, and the architect,
  • an expanded list of additional powers for the unbidden to master,
  • Some new husks - some are mroe than lifeless shells...
  • guidelines for developing an architect's lair
  • An explanation of how the condemned can evade their fate...
  • Thirty-two new shadows,
  • More powers for the shadows
  • The first full hunt (as found later in "The Book of Hunts")

The book is put together very well, with excellent artwork, evocative of extreme darkness. The organization is farily good, if out of order in some places. New shadows are introduced after a list of new shadow powers... So, the structural editing could have used some work, but the details aren't bad at all.

The information for the psychological/emotional development of the unbidden through it's three stages of maturity is excellent, and makes this book worth buying almost all on its own.

The new shadows are terrifying, and are easily transferable into most other game systems, for a fresh new approach.

Even better, the book lists a number of potential hooks for first time GM's to peruse and think about integrating into their own games...

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 4 (Meaty)
