Oh sure, I had heard all the stories about how great it was, how it never gotten a bad review and how it had the best rules system in gameing. So I had some pretty high expectations for Call of Cthulhu. Now first off this is version 5.5 so I can't say how much use someone with an earlier version will get out of this but for someone thats never played Cthulhu befor, well your sure missing something.

For those of you that don't already know Call of Cthulhu is based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft a horror writer in the 1920's. In the game you take the role of some kind of investigator into the occult: a professor, newspaper reported or a private investigator just to name a few. It takes place in either the 1890's, 1920's, or 1990's with a tremendous amount of support for all three time periods. Now on to the meat.

The rules are smooth as silk, with precentage rolls in a certain skill determing the outcome. Character generation in determined rolling a certain amount of d6's and adding on extra points for certain skills like intelligence. Then based on your occupation, education, and intelligence you get a number of points to divide between skills based on a precentage system. You roll 2d10(1-100)and if you roll under your precentage in a skill you succeed. It's that simple.

The core rulebook also contains over a hundred spells, many monsters, profiles of cosmic beings and four ready made adventures.
