this book was great...I truly like the detail that was presented to the reader. It was given in a way that allowed the game master to organize it and introduce her own quirks and details to make it her adventure...not just one that she got out of a book. I thought that the story was great, it organized just the right combination of political intrigue and combaqt that my players enjoy.

Y'know...what makes this book special, however, is its' transference through time. It takes you from teh year 1197 to 1417. Quite a deal of time passes between adventures and a pretty serious amount of experience is gained becuse of the asumpiton: with time comes experience. This allows the characters to progress a little quicker (relatively in real-tiem) and roleplay the idea of older more interactive characters that have gained information, knowledge, contacts and physical/mystical powers through the generations. They have seen friends die, or perhaps they have even killed them. They have seen empires fall and evil forces unleashed onto the world. they have been heroes, or scoundrels (depending upon teh character) ... they have saved the world, or plundered teh burning ruins for their own gain.

Part of roleplaying is learning about other poeple and how they live. This book also teaches you about the history of some parts of Europe (with a White Wolf spin on it of course). I am no historian myself, but I assume that White Wolf has done an acceptable job in translating history (notice i say translating) into their world.

The other part of roleplaying is learning about yourslef. It ahs always been my opinion that White Wolf does a pretty good job of helping you see parts of yourself that you may never have been anymore. This is one of those books that allows you to choose your own path. It allows the players the opportunity to be heroes, or fiends. It gives the storytellers a good base with which to tell the stories, but enough pliancy to also le them make it personalized.

for me, this book was great...my troupe and I enjoyed it greatly and we had many an hour of discussion after the sessions wre over to develop it farther. To me, this is the mark of a great stoyr...it just keeps going and going and going...
