A copy of this was sent to me, and my first thought was "oh, a
magazine about the UK scene." After a quick flip through, though,
I rapidly turned about. "Aha!" I noted, "this is great coverage
of a lot of stuff we never hear about, and for both RPG and non-RPG
stuff!" (And yes, I tend to talk to myself while I work.)
The magazine covers all games-- RPGs, board games, mind games, abstract games, CCGs, wargames, PBMs, live action games-- the full spectrum. In 28 pages, they crammed a heck of a lot of stuff, which is part of what made this so fun. As an added bonus, this issue had some Cthuloid features. Plus info on the Euroscene, on contests and challenges, and contact details for a bunch of organizations I'd never heard of before. It's a good broad-spectrum gaming magazine, which neatly avoids marginalizing any one particular type. And they come off as saavy and cool without being excessively hip or trendy. At 28 pages, it's a quick read, a fun read, and worthwhile. It comes out 10 times a year. I don't know if I'd pay the steep US rate, but if some smart distributor were to bring it in at a reasonable price, I'd subscribe in a second.
