"Night Train" is the third Deadlands Dime Novel. It was released at the same time as the "Great Rail Wars" (GRW) miniatures game, and is the first dime novel to include a scenario for the GRW as well as a normal Deadlands adventure.

In case you haven't seen any of the Deadlands Dime Novels yet, the basic format is a 32-page story starring Ronan Lynch, a harrowed gunfighter. After that is another 32 pages of adventure material based on the story.

The basic story involves mysterious attacks on train depots on the Black River Railroad line near the town of Varney Flats, Kansas. However, the story is such that it could be run along any of the major railroad lines in the Weird West without too much trouble.

While I have not yet playtested "Night Train" adventure on my own posse, I found the story to be quite entertaining. I also like the inclusion of a GRW scenario, which ties in nicely with the adventure, but isn't necessary to run the story if you don't like miniatures combats.

Overall, Pinnacle has been producing high quality stories and adventures in their Dime Novels, and "Night Train" is no exception. The stories are enjoyable to read in their own right, and they give you a feel for how the adventure should flow. And for only $5 each, you won't have lost much if you should disagree. Pick one up and give 'em a gander, pardner.

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 4 (Meaty)
