Written in Blood is a character sheet and log for Run Out the Guns! You're thinking - "A bunch of blank pages, right? What the heck is there to review?" Ah, but the book isn't all blank. There are a number of things to get you started in your recording of the piracy you commit in ROTG!…

For starters, the book ominious starts with: "This is the Private Journal of [insert name here]. Keep your hands off! Anyone but me caught with this book will be gagged, flogged, and marooned." Stern stuff. And here I thought most pirates weren't the writing sort.

Inside, you will find room for your character details, including hair, eyes, etc. There is a page with a blank illustration of a man from the waist up labelled "Tattos and Scars" for you to pencil in. Obviously, female characters are going to have to improvise, as is anyone tattoed or scarred below the waist. (!)

There is space for all sorts of details, including "Look What I Can Do" (skills and such) to "Talkin' and Me Letters" (language skills) "Booty and Loot", "Ship and Crew Notes" "Blood Enemies" and more. My personal favorite - "Places I'm Wanted". Ah, the simple things in life - like being wanted by numerous governments. What a beautiful thing.

Written in Blood also includes a few pages in the center with examples of what to put in the book - treasure maps, special notes about crew members (including "I have given the Indian members of the crew Christian names that I can pronounce" - classic!) and so on.

Written in Blood is a good companion for ROTG! - perfect for keeping braggin' rights recorded properly. It also lets characters grow to be much deeper than a simple character sheet will allow - it lets them became much more three-dimensional characters.

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 4 (Meaty)
