The Sailor Moon Role-Playing Game and Resource Book ( hereafter just Sailor Moon RPGARB ) is a solid second release from Guardians of Order. Those of you who do not know, Guardians of Order's first release was Big Eyes Small Mouth. A roleplaying game dedicated to animae style role-playing. I have played Big Eyes Samll Mouth several times over the last year and found the system fun and flexable to a variety of genres.

I had been awaiting the release of Sailor Moon RPGARB for several months as it was originally to premeir at GenCon in August. Mark C. MacKinnon explained that the delay was caused by delays in shipping with Japan. The book though was worth the wait.

The game mechanics are the same as used in Big Eyes Small Mouth which is a relief. Too many companies develope a good set of rules that work and then toss them away to create something that doesn't work ( FASA's Earthdawn set of rules come to mind when compared to the earlier Shadowrun rules ). The point costs are tweaked to give a selection of skills and abilites that fit the Sailor Moon style. Rules are all given samples from the TV show to explain how this power is used by a hero or villian. Many cases levels of abitiy are also discussed. This makes it easy to develop your own character and rate them against existing characters.

To help out new gamers there is a section with pre done characters for all the heroines and tuxedo mask. There is also all the villians stats done too. I would have prefered it if there had been a couple of progressions of characters but that is minor. The powers used by the characters are marked by when they are first used by that character in the series ( episode number ). Some of the later characters are less detailed but they all contain the popular knowledge that players would need to start recreating them.

There is an additional GM section for creating the special creature that Sailor moon and company will blast to pieces each episode while the real villian tries to escape.

Sailor Moon RPGARB has a listing of the first eighty-two episodes which covers most of the North American version that most people will be familiar with. There is additional information too including song lyrics and translations of the original japanesse lyrics and the North Americian lyrics to the same tune.

Additionally, there are plenty of colour plates that fill the center of the book of the Sailor Scouts and there enemies. There are even Sailor Moon says scattered throughout the book.

Given this second well done book, it will be interesting to see what Guardians of Order tries to tackle next.
