During the Espan rebellion, the Kashmere Commonwealth covertly aided the rebel forces against the tyranical government. Although the rebels won, and ousted the old Espan order, they were then forced to pay back the Kashmere Commonwealth for their assistance.
Things just don't always go as planned. Like when the new Espan government decides not to pay back the Kashmere, and the Kashmere take it…well, personally. Hostile Takeover is a blueprint of the campaign between the Kashmere Commonwealth and the Espan system. It details the fighting over commerce and owed money. This book also includes all of the ships from the now out-of-print book The Espan Rebellion, which is great - the Scorpion, with its salvage claws has always been a favorite of mine. But the real meat of this book is the numerous scenarios that highlight fights during the Kashmeri-Espan war. A particularly interesting one is "Saucer Swarm", where a wave of Saucer Shuttles must fight their way past Salamanders and Kosmos II's. You have never seen anything like it. Also, the Warhound showdown in Scenario #8 is certain to be a dogfight worthy of legends. Also detailed are several new ships, such as the Agni, a two-man powerhouse; the Prowler, a torp-haters nightmare; the Strata, a well-armed ship with the impressive Plexar gun, and the Surya, a great flexible small fighter. Hostile Takeover is good supplement Silent Death, great for players eager to try out some new ships and scenarios. Personally, I like rooting for the underdog, and that absolutely goes to the Espans in this one…
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
