Put simply, "Chronicle of the Awakenings" is a Nephilim supplement
containing more Earth history (in the form of Past Life Eras), new
Metamorphoses, and more Simulacra archetypes. But nothing is ever as it
seems in the world of Nephilim, and this is no exception. The Chronicle
also provides an entirely new way to view Metamorphoses, as a set of passions
and personality traits. It's worth looking at,though, at $16, steeply priced,
as it rounds out of the Nephilim world. And, the new Metamorphosis rules are
absolutely crucial. In essence, one's Nephilim is defined by their traits,
and this definition provides the player with more focus and insight into
what goals must be accomplished to achieve Agartha (the ostensible point
of the game). This setup makes much more sense than the original book's
scheme and provides a great impetus to roleplaying the character. The book,
at 90 pages plus character sheet blanks, is a light read (spurred along by the
decent but low-contrast artwork, which gives the book a slightly musty,
washed-out look, perhaps intentionally). It doesn't answer the eternal
question (what do Nephilim players do, anyway?) but it does provide crucial
insights into how they should act, and most Nephilim referees should pick up
a copy before starting a campaign.
