WORLD'S FIRST STOCKING-CHILLER RPG: DE PROFUNDIS UNLEASHED IN TIME FOR XMAS

Hogshead Publishing has released "De Profundis", the new horror RPG by top Polish games designer Michal Oracz.

"De Profundis" is a radical new game, blending the imagination of H.P. Lovecraft with elements of psychodrama and the correspondence-based story-telling methods of classic horror.

"De Profundis" is designed to break down the borders between gaming-time and real-life, and between reality and illusion, in the same way that the latest generation of computer games such as "Majestic" and the Nokia Game do. It runs without a GM, and can be played solo.

"De Profundis" is the latest addition to Hogshead's "New Style" line of ground-breaking RPGs, loved by critics and reviewers, and hated by old- school traditionalists who can't understand how you can roleplay without dice, much less a GM. The rulebook boasts a gloriously creepy cover by Dennis Detwiller, and retails for $6.95. That's not a typo.

The game is packed with innovation, new ways to roleplay and new insights into the nature of horror-gaming. What's more, in a virtuoso display of games design, readers will slowly become aware that the entire rulebook is also an example of play.

"We're not going to explain how that's possible," said James Wallis, director of Hogshead Publishing. "Just buy the thing. It's $6.95, for goodness' sake."

DE PROFUNDIS by Michal Oracz, published by Hogshead Publishing Ltd under licence from Portal Publishing. Stock code HOG405; ISBN 1-899749-35-7. 32 pages; $6.95. Available from Hogshead Publishing, Wizard's Attic and all fine games retailers.
