----------------------------------------------------- WHITE DWARF #219

White Dwarf #219 is just brimming over with new stuff. So without further ado...

Tired of playing on that green table with your Gorkamorka gang? Need a proper desert? Adrian Wood shows how easy it is to make your own desert terrain! After that you'll see a great battle report for Gorkamorka pitting the the top UK shop managers against one another. Then it's on to find out how to put together a proper Rebel Grot gang (one of the new Gorkamorka mobz from Digganob), plus how to paint them all!

Remember the old battle reports in Warhammer 40,000 where you got a turn by turn, blow by blow report? Well it's back, a whopping fifteen page battle report featuring the enigmatic Eldar versus the Blood Angels. No doubt likely to turn up in this battle report will be the new Eldar Fire Prism tank! White Dwarf #219 will have all the rules, datafax, and tactics you'll need to blow your enemies off the face of the battlefield.

Nigel Stillman steps up to the plate and shows how he is collecting his own Bretonnian force. Then it's off to the Realm of Chaos to check out all the new Khorne daemons. You'll get all you need to know about the armies of the Blood God, including tactics, the new releases, some cool stories, and a sample army list.

Finally, it's a visit from Electronic Arts. These are the lads that are responsible for Dark Omens, the sequel to the Shadow of the Horned Rat. They've come to put Warhammer staff champion Gordon Davidson to the test at their own game. And of course much more this issue, including Issue Zero of Warhammer Monthly, our new comic! (see below for more info on Warhammer Monthly)

NEW RELEASES FOR APRIL

Blood Bowl New Releases(!)

THE BEST LEAGUE GAME EVER CREATED IS BACK! Many of you fondly remember Blood Bowl from a few years ago; many folks never stopped playing! This fast-paced, bone- crunching game is a lot like football, or perhaps how'd we really like to see football played. :)

It takes place in the fantasy world of Warhammer, and allows players to choose from twelve different races, from the diminutive Halflings (which would rather spend the game eating than playing), to everybody's favorite green-skinned warriors - the Orcs!

The boxed set itself comes with all you need to get started including two teams, Humans and Orcs. But it doesn't stop there - also released this month are three teams!

The Grudgebearers are a Dwarf team, and who is better suited at taking hard blows to the head than a Dwarf? Tough on armor and high in skill, this team is really to tough to hurt. The Skavenblight Scramblers are, of course, a Skaven team, and are unsurprisingly, incredibly speedy and hard to catch once they have their little claws wrapped around the ball. The Naggaroth Nightmares are an evil Dark Elf team (bet you thought they'd be Undead with a name like the Nightmares didn't ya!). A mix of strength and speed, they get the added bonus of having Witch Elves on the team with their almost unstoppable frenzies on the field!

Like the title says, Blood Bowl is the ultimate league game, and look for the expansion pack Death Zone coming next month to complete the fun!

978038 Blood Bowl $49.99 (Complete boxed game with two teams) 976904 Grudgebearers $34.99 (Boxed set of 12 models - one team) 976911 Skavenblight Scramblers $34.99 (Boxed set of 12 models - one team) 976935 Naggaroth Nightmares $34.99 (Boxed set of 12 models - one team)

GorkaMorka New Releases

STOP THE OPPRESSION! WE'Z ALL GREEN! The Digganob supplement to Gorkamorka introduced three new mobs to the game. This month the second mob is released and everyone is just fanatical about them!

The Rebel Grots have thrown off the oppressive yoke of their abusive Ork masters and are rising up to claim an equal spot in Orky society!

Heading this glorious rebellion is the Red Gobbo himself, the enigmatic figurehead of the revolution and a special character that can be found in the Digganob rule book.

Conveniently packed together in one blister is the Head Honcho and the Banna Waver. Keep in mind that players can't field a Rebel Grot mob without these little guys.

Making up the bulk of the Rebel Grot mobs are the Rebel Grots themselves. A ragtag band, these models just blow any of the old grots away! Players will no doubt draft these great models into their Warhammer 40,000 armies when not using them for Gorkamorka. Just as cool are the Rebel Snots, the yoofs of the Rebel Grot mobs. Unlike Ork mobs, Rebel Grot mobs consist of hordes of these miniatures so make sure you stock up on these blisters!

Carrying the mob into battle is the Big Lugga and the Rebel Grot Cutta. While both vehicles are nowhere near as complicated or as shooty as a nice Ork trukk, they are swarming with Grots, ready to get into battle and swamp the enemy with numbers and the power of knowing that they fight for Right! Viva la Revolution!

978281 Rebel Grot Big Lugga $22.99 (Boxed set of one vehicle) 978205 Rebel Grot Cutta $14.99 (Boxed set of one vehicle) 8613A Rebel Grots $5.99 (Three models per blister) 8613B Head Honcho and Banna Waver $6.99 (Two models per blister) 8614A Rebel Snots $5.99 (Four models per blister) 8640C Da Red Gobbo! $5.99 (One model per blister)

Big Huge Greater Daemon Releases! :)

TEARING THROUGH THE FABRIC OF REALITY With unmatched fury, the Bloodthirster has arrived. Wherever the Bloodthirster appears death, destruction, and total annihilation are sure to follow. All of humanity (and even those that aren't human) shake in fear that one day this path of destruction will lead to their own doorstep.

In the game the Bloodthirster is an immensely powerful beast, able to carve its way through a unit or squad like a hot knife through butter. Most players fear the very words Greater Daemon and fear the words Greater Daemon of Khorne even more so.

The model itself is huge, its wingspan alone is enough to make a dragon envious. You can imagine the untold destruction its great axe and whip can wreak on the battlefield. And you can see why we think this incredible new model from Trish Morrision is going to be one of the most popular models in the Citadel Miniatures line.

Another thing that makes this a popular model is that it can be used in both Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. So players who have a Chaos warband for fantasy and a Khorne Space Marine army get the bonus of using one model in both worlds!

Even people who don't use Chaos armies will be buying this model for its sheer coolness. Those who like to paint will find the Bloodthirster an exceptional challenge. You can be sure that since it is such a dynamic model that many people will be entering it into Golden Demon this year.

We expect to see a lot of people being held in the sway of Chaos when this model hits the shelves; who in their right minds would want to resist! Blood for the blood god!

978779 Bloodthirster, Greater Daemon of Khorne $44.99 (Boxed set of one really intimidating model)

Warhammer Fantasy Battle Releases

IT'S COMPLETE CHAOS AROUND HERE! What a great time to be a Chaos player, with the constant stream of new models their armies should be full of new surprises for their opponents . This month they can add the Marauders with double-handed weapons. These are the perfect match for going against heavily armored opponents like Dwarfs or heavy cavalry.

Supplementing the Chaos Warrior Regiment are the new metal Chaos Warriors. These models look great as rank and file or as s. Some players just prefer metal miniatures over plastic ones, so we did up a line of metal warriors to add some weight to Chaos!.

Khorne players will be happy to see the release of the Bloodletter Command and Bloodletter Champion. Adding these models to the unit will increase its already considerable prowess in battle (after all they are Daemons of Khorne!). The models look really neat, especially the big Champion who is pointing at his next victim!

Also released this month are the Ungor Skirmishers and Ungor Skirmisher Command. These little Beastmen are great for running in front of more expensive units (like Bestigors and Gors), to soak up missile fire, leaving these better units intact. The Ungors can also be formed up by using their musician before they charge into battle so they can take advantage of the rank and standard bonus. Also out is the Minotaur Standard Bearer, ready to add that +1 to combat resolution for the big guys!

8520H Chaos Marauders w/Double-handed weapons $5.99 (Two models per blister) 8520J Chaos Warriors $6.99 (Two models per blister) 8521M Ungor Skirmishers $5.99 (Three models per blister) 8521N Ungor Skirmisher Command $4.99 (Two models per blister) 8525E Minotaur Standard Bearer $14.99 (One model per blister) 8529D Bloodletter Command Group $8.99 (Two models per blister) 8529E Bloodletter Champion $6.99 (One model per blister)

Warhammer 40,000 Releases

MORE SOPHISTICATED ELDAR WEAPONRY While the Eldar are few in number, it is more than made up for by their exotic, and rather potent weapons. Even their common foot soldiers, the Eldar Guardians can fill the air with tons of deadly firepower. To reflect this fact the new Eldar Guardians with Shuriken Catapults are being released this month. These are the same great looking plastic models that were previously available but with all new, metal Shuriken Catapults. The boxed set comes with six models, six metal Shuriken Catapults, all for the same price as the old, all plastic box.

The Eldar Falcon Grav Tank was immensely popular, and we are getting that positive, groovy vibe (as Eldar are wont to do) about this new model as well. The Eldar Fire Prism Tank is based on the Falcon chassis, but packs a much more powerful weapon in the shape of the Prism Cannon. Imagine the effects of a lascannon (arguably the most powerful ranged weapon in the game) with a burst template! Watch as whole squads of Terminators are all vaporized at once, or enemy tanks are blasted apart before your very eyes! Now you'll understand when your customers start salivating when they think about owning this powerful vehicle and employing it in their Eldar army!

006700 Eldar guardians w/ shuriken catapults $12.50 (Boxed set of six models)

978342 Eldar Fire Prism Grav tank $37.50 (Boxed set of one model)

Da Odd Bits

Warhammer Monthly #1 $2.95 (see below for more info in this new magazine!)

NEW SPRAY PAINTS! Everyone wants a quicker way to paint up their armies, and now they've got one! Added to the line of quality spray paints are two new colors, Bubonic Brown & Bestial Brown. The brown colors are great for all those new Beastman models that are being released to support the new Realm of Chaos for Warhammer. 0066 Bubonic Brown $5.99 (One spray can) 0067 Bestial Brown $5.99 (One spray can)

THUNDERHAWKS ARE GO IN AMERICA! Now on sale! GW-USA Mail Order is selling the 40K scale Thunderhawk kits (previously on sale only through GW-UK Mail Order). These are the same expert modelling kits as advertised in Citadel Journal & seen at Games Day: hand- packed in a felt-lined, embossed, individually numbered & lacquered pine case, as befits this special item. You also get all-new decals for the 4 big Marine chapters, and an extensive 12-page assembly booklet (and you'll need it, too).

Each Thunderhawk is made-to-order, so there is a slight delay in delivery, but that also means you don't have to worry about us running out. This is an _expert_ kit, not for the faint of heart, so be warned. It is for display use, not for actual 40K use, thus no datafax or rules will be done. Call now at 1-800-394-GAME to order yours!

Thunderhawk kits will be $650 + $15 S&H. We will have a small supply available at Games Day, too.

WHITE DWARF #220 SNEAK PEAK New releases abound in White Dwarf #220, just take a look...

The age old enemies, High Elves and Dark Elves get new models to bash each other with, including the High Elf Lothern Sea Guard and (finally some would say) the Dark Elf Dark Riders. This is just in time for the new Warhammer Campaign Pack, Tears of Isha which incidentally pits the Dark Elves and the High Elves in a fight to the finish! After that there will be a great battle report of pure evil featuring the Dark Elves against the seemingly unstoppable tide of Chaos! The wacky article "A Tale of Four Gamers" continues, this time focusing on Richard Hobson's Wood Elf army and his tribulations and triumphs at the UK Staff Warhammer Tournament. Plus everyone's favorite wild man (and Games Day guest!) Nigel Stillman continues to show off his Bretonnian army as he goes about painting it.

Ork players will be happy to see that there is a brand spankin' new Ork Scorcha. It is comprised of metal pieces that fit over the Ork Wartrack from Gorkamorka. The complete rules for using this new model in Gorkamorka and Warhammer 40,000 will be found in this issue too! There will be a special Mad Meks section providing tips for adding those all important extra gubbinz to your Gorkamorka vehicles. Speaking of Warhammer 40,000 there will be a cool section showing Dave Andrew's (another one of the Games Day special guests!) amazing Necron Pyramid, how he built it, and what's in store in the future for the mysterious Necrons. Those who know their history will remember the famous Battle of Stalingrad. What better battle to bring to Warhammer 40,000 than this one with all of its close quarters fighting, and that is exactly what Warwick Kinrade has done. Check out his neat Warhammer 40,000 terrain and his tips for creating your own. Also, you'll get to check out his Imperial Guard army that Warwick put together just to go with this table!

As you know Blood Bowl is back in all of its glory. Catch two classic articles in the form of Human and Orc tactics, plus a section showcasing the Dwarf, Skaven, Orc, High Elf, and Dark Elf teams. And don't forget to check out the 'Eavy Metal section with all the new releases and tips on how to paint them like the pros!

WHITE DWARF #220 $4.99

FROM THE BLACK LIBRARY... Here's the latest word from GW Publishing's own Ian Pickstock:

Warhammer Monthly is here! Each month you can now get 36 pages of total carnage, mayhem and all-out action and adventure from the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. For the past year the guys at the Black Library, the people responsible for bringing you Inferno! have been slaving long and hard, chained to their Apple Macs, candles burning long into the night to put together Warhammer Monthly, Games Workshop's long-awaited comic.

I had a chat with the Black Library's Chief Librarian, Andy Jones, who had this to say about Warhammer Monthly. "We have known for ages that our worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 would make great settings for a comic. Steeped in dark, gothic imagery, not to mention war and carnage by the bucket loads, our worlds are crying out to be transformed into comic strip with heroes, battling against the odds, fighting terrible monsters, daemons and foul aliens or even saving the galaxy single-handed. As the comic is a monthly publication this means that before we've gone to press with issue one, we've had to get a fair few issues under our belts and I can tell you that we've got some cracking stories lined up from the likes of Pat Mills, Dan Abnett and Gordon Rennie, illustrated by some of the finest artists in the business. Kev Walker, Simon Davis, Simon Harrison, Colin MacNeil and Mark Gibbons to name but a few.

If any of these names sound familiar then it'll come as no surprise that between then these artists and writers have worked on such great titles as ABC Warriors, Judge Dredd, Nemesis, BLAIR 1, Predator, Batman, Sinister Dexter, Iron Man, Slaine, Missionary Man, Punisher and just about any other strip you care to mention!

Each month we will be having a good mixture of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 stories, not forgetting the likes of Necromunda and Gorkamorka. We are trying to maintain a balance between regular stories, like the excellent Bloodquest from Gordon Rennie and Colin MacNeil, as well as many self containted, one-off strips. This way each issue will have something new as well as your favourite characters and stories. Of one thing I can be sure: Each issue will be jam-packed with action from cover to cover!"

To celebrate the launch of Warhammer Monthly there is veritable festival of things going on_

--- Free Issue of Warhammer Monthly --- The first is the splendid Issue Zero of Warhammer Monthly. If you want to get a taste of the comic then this special edition is a must-have, and what's more it's totally free! It has a short sample of up-and-coming comic strips in Warhammer Monthly, as well as two complete comic strips. In Dan Abnett and Simon Coleby's The Bridge, Orks and Chaos Space Marines clash in a desperate battle for control of a vital bridge. A Necromancer discovers the hidden dangers of dealing with the foul forces of the Undead in Andy Jones and Simon Davis's The Summoning.

To get your hands on a copy of Issue Zero don't miss White Dwarf 219. Alternatively call your local Games Workshop Mail Order (in the USA, 1-800-394-GAME) and we'll post a copy of Issue Zero to you for free. Of course you'll have to be quick as stocks are very limited!

--- WIN! WIN! WIN! Actual Games Workshop Artwork --- As well as some stormin' comic strips, Issue One of Warhammer Monthly has a once in a lifetime opportunity to win an actual piece of Games Workshop artwork, and we don't mean some tatty photocopy or even some proof from the printers. No, we mean the actual artwork, fully framed and signed by the artist. The piece in question is the awesome Issue Zero cover painting by WAR, depicting a desperate single combat between an Ork warlord and a Chaos Space Marine champion. Don't miss out on issue one of Warhammer Monthly if you want to stand a chance of winning this stunning artwork.

Warhammer Monthly Issues 0 and 1 hits the streets in March, so make sure your newsagent, comic shop or local GW store reserves you a copy today!

Enter the Inferno! All this frenzied activity for Warhammer Monthly doesn't mean that we've forgotten Inferno! Far from it, in fact; amidst all this chaos we have managed to steer the Black Library safely through the Warp to turn out another cracking issue of Inferno!

Kicking off Issue 5 is an awesome cover painting by Mark Gibbons of Morathi - The Hag Sorceress. We've also got stories from Inferno! regulars Jonathan Green and Gav Thorpe. In Jonathan Green's story Dark Heart, barbarian mercenary Torben Badenov returns in a sinister mystery set in the heart of Empire. Gav Thorpe's Last Chance gives us a taste of the low-down, mean and dirty side of the Imperial Guard, with his tale of a soldier in the 13th Penal Legion. Meanwhile in The Dead Among Us, a Priest of Morr is called to investigate a mysterious death in the streets of Middenheim, in this sinister tale by James Wallis.

Don't think that just because Warhammer Monthly is here that you won't be seeing any more comic strips in Inferno! We will continue to explore every conceivable way of illustrating and telling you about the action and adventure from the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000!

Huck's Hopefully Helpful Hints:

Kevin Stringer, our Outrider from Chicago, has some neat ideas this month:

I've got a couple of uses for your empty blister packs that might be of use to the general public.

1. They're great for covering the slotta bases when the models are turned sideways or any other time there is slotta exposed. It's quicker & easier than putty or other fillers. Just cut to shape with scissors & super-glue it down. As you're going to be flocking over it anyway, the shape doesn't have to be exact...

2. For top- or front-heavy troopers (usually standard bearers) cut a small strip of the blister and glue it to the bottom of the rear sides of the base. The troopers on either side (or just one side) stand on the flat, clear tab and keep the fig from tipping. Some of the more exacting modelers will want to notch the base of the fig that will always be next to the problem-child for a perfect fit.

- Thanks Kevin! Got any cool tips you'd like to share with your fellow gamers? Send 'em in for next month's newsletter! BTW: We're awaiting an article from the UK Studio on sculpting fur or hair onto figures, so keep an eye peeled for that in an upcoming issue.

That's it for this month. Thanks to everyone who attended the Baltimore Grand Tournament - we all had a blast there, and as always it was great meeting, talking, and gaming with everyone. Seeya at the Chicago GT! (slots still open, BTW)
