One Gamer's Opinion

Okay, you've memorized bits of the previous commentary and have presented your case of frugalness to your non-gamer acquaintance. To which they merely sweep their hand across your vast bookshelf and ask, "What about all these other books?" Uh, oh... It seems they've cornered you on the supplement issue! You've got a few choices for retaliation to the question:

  • A. Quiver in fear
  • B. Run Away! Run Away!
  • C. Kick them real hard in the shins
  • D. Point out that you purchased them with the money you saved by not going to the movies

While answers A-C might be more fun, it may be helpful to use D, and be sure to point out that you did not purchase all 70 of your supplements in one month, you purchased them with the money calculated towards the game-book from the previous month. While one or two of the supplements may be as thick (and cost as much) as the original book, most supplements only cost about $10.00. That allows you to purchase about three additional books per month!

What about other activities outside of movies? Well, do the math yourself! I think you'll find that gaming just about beats out any activities in cost effectiveness within a month's time-span!

    Additional: Hey, I socialize! I'm a gamer!

The non-gamer may then try to attack from a new angle and demand, "You might have saved money, but you've become such a home-body!" My tactic is normally to simply blink innocently and point out the fact that they're with me, so I must socialize a little, right? Unfortunately, my parents don't consider my going over to their house for free food socializing. :)

Seriously though, despite the fact that you might be with a group (and saving money while you're at it!) you still might not be socializing any more than a person who only goes to movies with his friends. Are you an eat-and-run gamer? Do you show up right as the game is to begin and leave the second it's over? If so, I can only hope that you do socialize elsewhere in your life. If of course you replied to the last question with, "What do you mean 'when the game ends?'" then I am green with envy.

Just my two dollars! (My thoughts are worth much more than a mere 2 cents!)
