Hack For More

MORE FILLER: Again?

I guess it's no surpise to those of you following along at home that there's more filler; my group seems to be meeting more and more sporadically. Part of the problem is that we've all been pretty darn busy: Laura and I have had to work more weekends at work, tiring us out; Seth had a wedding anniversary and a birthday, and Erich can never reschedule because he's always visiting his new girlfriend.

I feel like it's the last summer of high school all over again, when everybody wanted to just go off to college and bum around and nobody was ever able to game.

And hey, I'm cool with it. It's hard to write a column at eleven at night, the only time I have to do it, and so I'm not always that enthusiastic about gaming myself. It's frustrating to spend ostensibly free time participating in a compromise activity when there's so many other things that we all have to get done around our homes.

I almost wish the group had a few wargamers, so we could at least dig out some boxed game and just whip into it if not enough people showed, but more and more, it just seems like nobody wants to go through the hassle of gaming if we're not actually going to do the game.

Maybe it's my fault. I'm something of a primma donna GM, subjecting the players to my whims and mood swings, altering the rules from one moment ot the next, and above all, lacking any sort of consistency. Being a player with a bad GM is rough work; you find yourself wondering what the point of it is, when you could be at home, watching a movie or playing Master of Orion 3 or anything but what you're actually doing: listening to a moron babble and roll dice like some sort of spastic random number generator.

I dunno. Maybe I'm burned out; it's hard to maintain the momentum with so many fits and starts. I like to think I have a few more columns in me; that way, the bar will be sufficiently lowered for any future RPG.net columnists. ("Your column doesn't have a lot to offer, does it?"/"Hey, at least it isn't Hack For More."/"All is forgiven!")

Alternately, I might just be wallowing in self-pity; I just wanna freaking game, man!

What do you think?
