Rogue Publishing

selected by Sandy Antunes
August 22, 2001

Rogue Publishing is a company that is putting out e-books (including one short work by this editor), both new and classics. The very cool thing is that they include writer's guidelines under their mission statement. And my experience has been that they are a very author-friendly outfit. The founder, Sharon Tripp, has also repped Grey Ghost Games at smaller Cons and is active in the east coast live-action scene.

The Collectors

The Collectors: The Burning House
by Thomas MacKay
Category: Roleplaying adventure
Genre: Supernatural mystery and menace
System: Fudge

The players portray demons sent to the mortal realm to fetch a soul that is owed to Him. That is, owed to the Master. The Chair. The Executive. The Home Office.

They have been given equipment and identities, and a task which seems at first glance very easy: simply locate the client, explain their purpose, and drag him -- kicking and screaming if necessary -- back to Processing.

Of course, things are never that easy. . . .

Available in both electronic and print editions.

Den of Thieves

Den of Thieves
and Rival Den of Thieves
by Scott David Gray
Category: Card games

Den of Thieves is a strategic card game for two to five players. The criminal element of the city is in a race to steal the most -- from the bank or each other. Bluff and backstab your way to victory, using such cards as the Bunko Artist, the Highwayman, and the Woman of Easy Virtue.

Or, for those seeking to commit more upscale sorts of crime, Rival Den of Thieves places you in control of such crooks as the Counterfeiter, the Extortionst, and the Lawyer.

Each may be played as a stand-alone game, or the two decks may be combined for games of up to ten players.

Pariah

Pariah
by Mike Jones
Category: Roleplaying adventure
Genre: Psi-powers
System: Fudge

In Pariah, players take on the roles of teenagers who are just discovering and coming to terms with the vast powers within themselves. Taken into custody by an enigmatic government agency, they barely get used to their rather luxurious confinement and rigorous testing when someone discovers the Truth about their purpose. And now they must escape--by any means necessary.

Priceless

Priceless
by Sandy Antunes
Category: Live action roleplaying
Genre: Horror

It was a stormy night, and you and your siblings were just recovering from that nasty fever that all the children in town had. Mother had to step out to do some errands, despite the storm. And when she came back, she seemed . . . different (even though Father says that's nonsense!).

Welcome to two unusual hours in the lives of the Harrington children. You and your siblings must puzzle out what has happened before bedtime, or bad things are sure to happen. Being children, the focus is on roleplaying, followed by problem solving. Readers of Edward Eager or the Narnia books will feel instantly at home . . . as will the Lovecraftian fans.

Dead Sea Murder
by Amanda Dickerson
Category: Roleplaying adventure
Genre: Pulp mystery
System: Fudge Terra Incognita

In 1947 the world was stunned by the discovery of ancient scrolls hidden in caves not far from where the city of Qumran once thrived. These documents, some written as early as 250 B.C., were hailed as one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the twentieth century. The Dead Sea Scrolls, as they were soon to be called, reportedly hadn't been seen by human eyes for two thousand years.

The members of the National Archaeological, Geographic, and Submarine Society know better.
