Since the Interactive Drama archive is intended to be a comprehsnsive archive of scenarios and information about all aspects of the interactive drama, it seems appropriate for us to include a book list here - the purpose of which is to list all currently available professional publications related to live roleplaying with click-thru links to the Amazon.Com page for the book to make it a bit easier for folks to get a copy of their own.
This is our bibliography of all interactive drama titles currently available. Right now the list is just starting out but it will grow over time. Currently the list contains all of the Mind's Eye Theatre rulebooks, a large number of Murder Mystery scenarios and games, the various Play This Book, Star Wars<, Cyberworld, and Chthulhu Live products, some Adults Only Roleplay Scenarios, and a number of books related to the theory of simulation and roleplay design. There is also a cultural texts section that serves as a catch-all for books that some folks find useful when designing their games or for novels which have inspired interactive drama design, theory, or content. A few particular authors or systems have their own sections.
If you know of any other titles I should add to the list or if you would like to see a particular genre or subsection represented, please let Dr. Phillips know as the idea is to make it as easy as possible for folks to find professional scenarios and systems (eventually, I'll put reviews and critiques up as well - both my own and those submitted from folks around the web so feel free to contact me if you'd like to contribute to that effort). If a scenario or book is no longer in print, it is still appropriate to include it here for the sake of completeness (there are collectors who may be able to find a hard-to-find title).
If a book is available through Amazon.Com, the title will have a link. The title links are active and will take you to the Amazon.Com page for the book where you can conveniently order the book through the web. More than one link for a title indicates that there is more than one edition. Please, please, please, if you wish to order more than one book, come back to this page and use the click-through links so that Interactive Drama will receive referral credit for your order (otherwise we only receive credit for the first link). If you're using Windows, you can "right-click" on a link and use the "open in new window" option to keep this page open and handy. Feel free to use the search box at the bottom of the page to look for additional books, or to plug in other books you know you want from Amazon.Com as we do receive credit for an order made through this particular search box.
If you are a publisher, feel free to contact Dr. Phillips about providing a reveiw copy of your title and we would be more than happy to place a review here or assign a reviewer for the product or book for the Journal of Interactive Drama. As I have the opportunity to review more materials, I will place more developed critiques here as well.
If you are interested in other aspects of interactive dramas, feel free to browse the rest of this site. If you would like to contribute something, please email Dr. Phillips. This collection of webpages is intended to be a service to the entire interactive drama community. Feel free to use it and to suggest additions and changes, it's your page too.

World of Darkness of the East
These are the Kindred of the East and Year of the Lotus materials from White Wolf. These World of Darkness books are in the same setting as the Mind's Eye Theatre books but they are intended for the tabletop game. Those interested in performing interactive dramas in Asian (Far Eastern) settings should find them very valuable. However, a little juggling can be done to use them as interactive drama resources. Others are planned in this series and they will be added to the list as they are published.

You can learn more about scenarios of this type by reading the Murder Mystery Party Game FAQ at this site. If you know of other scenarios of this type, please email Dr. Phillips. Mature Subjects and Adult Roleplay
One of the most fascinating potentials for interactive drama and roleplay is in the bedroom or related venues as well as in mature subject matter materials. These books are about mature subjects and are intended for adults only. If you know of other worthwhile books of this type, please feel free to email Dr. Phillips. Some of the texts listed here are not specifically about roleplay or interactive drama but related subjects in an adult context.
- 101 Grrrreat Quickies - Yet another of Laura Corn's books, see above for comments.
- 101 Nights of Grrrreat Sex: Secret Sealed Seductions for Fun Loving Couples - This is another of Laura Corn's books, see above for comments.
- 101 Nights of Grrrreat Romance: How to Make Love with Your Clothes On - This is another of Laura Corn's books, see above for comments.
- 52 Invitations to Grrreat Sex - No I did not spell it wrong. This is part of Laura Corn's series of seduction game books which have the actual scenarios sealed . . . half are for the man and half are for the woman, you open a sealed seduction and then go from there. One criticism of the books have been that they're not appropriate for everyone (quite a few of the scenarios or games can get expensive and others make assumptions about relationships which may not be true). Still, worthwhile.
- The Art of Play: An Adult's Guide to Reclaiming Imagination and Spontaneity - by Adam Blatner and Allee Blatner.
- The Beauty of Fetish - I love the photography of Steve Diet Goedde and have always found the lovely Mistress Midori to be captivating and down right wonderful . . . I would just love to play in an interactive drama with her . . . so this book is perfect as it has both of these great artists working together.
- The Beginner's Guide to Group Sex: Who Does What to Whom and How - Holly Marie Flor explains all the ins and outs of the ultimate experimental adult sexual experience. This is not for all readers. Most interactive dramatists will not find it particularly useful, except for the groups attatched to established gothic fetish party establishments or similar venues that regularly combine mature situation roleplay scenes with sexual contact.

- The Gilmartin Report - by Brian G. Gilmartin.
- The Great Sex Weekend: A 48-Hour Guide to Rekindling Sparks for Bold, Busy, or Bored Lovers - Includes 2-Hour Plans for the Really Busy - Since most surveys have shown that for most couples frequency and satisfaction of sex declines rapidly within the first year of marriage and continues to go downhill after that, Dr. Pepper Schwartz and Dr. Janet Lever have designed a program to help couples regain the spark they once had. The program (with complete instructions on what to do) can be customized to fit each couple's level of emotional or sexual comfort.
- A Hand in the Bush: The Fine Art of Vaginal Fisting - Deborah Addington tells everything you wanted to know and more about this particular activity.
- Imaginative Sex - John Norman provides fifty-three fantasy scenarios intended for consenting adults (the assumption is husband-wife combinations) along with advice for knot-tieing and sexual exploration. Obviously, this book is not intended for everyone.

- Kinkycrafts: 99 Do-It-Yourself S/M Toys for the Kinky Handyperson - Here you have it, detailed instructions for building everything from a cat-o'-nine-tails to a spanking bench to a basement dungeon. Many of these projects might make rather interesting props for interactive dramas as well.

- Sex Toy Tricks: More Than 125 Ways to Accessorize Good Sex - Jay Wiseman continues his series of books on ways to spice up sexual relationships with some very practical advice on bringing "toys" into the bed.
- Sex Trap VCR Game - Someone who has this, please tell me what it is.
- The Shadow of Dionysus: A Contribution to the Sociology of the Orgy - Michel Maffesoli offers a postmodern inquiry into the social significance of the orgy complete with detailed discussion of orgiasm which has some interesting sociological and psychological relations to interactive drama performance dynamics. Cindy Linse and Mary Kristina Palmquist have translated the text from the original French edition.
- SM 101: A Realistic Introduction - Jay Wiseman has written one of the best introductions to the sadomasochism scene there is. This should also be required reading for anyone interested in adult roleplay . . . vanilla or not.

Robert Anton Wilson
This is a list of books by Robert Anton Wilson, my favorite writer. Wilson is a philosopher, author, psychologist, shaman, and just about anything else you can think of. His work has had a tremendous impact upon a generation of writers and thinkers.
- Acceleration of Knowledge
- The Book of the Breast - Yes, an entire book devoted to my favorite obsession.
- Coincidance: A Head Test - This is a nice collection of literary essays and philosophical musings.
- Cosmic Trigger:: Final Secret of the Illuminati, Vol 1 - RAW's autobiography.
- Cosmic Trigger Vol 1
- Cosmic Trigger: Down to Earth, Vol 2 - The second volume of RAW's autobiography.
- Cosmic Trigger II: Down to Earth
- Cosmic Trigger: My Life After Death, Vol 3 - The third but not final volume of RAW's autobiography.
- The Earth Will Shake
- Everything Is Under Control: Conspiracies, Cults, and Cover-Ups
- The Earth Will Shake (The Historical Illuminatus Chronicles) Vol 1
- The Widow's Son (The Historical Illuminatus Chronicles, Vol 2)
- Nature's God (Historical Illuminatus Chronicles, Vol. 3)
- The Illuminati Papers - An eclectic and refreshing collection of essays and parodies. It is well worth a read, certainly a drive down memory lane.
- The Illuminati Papers
- The Illuminatus Trilogy - Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea have created what I consider to be one of the most thrilling novels of our times (this is a compendium edition with the three original novels bound in one volume). This is without a doubt my favorite novel of all time. I cannot praise it more highly. Once you've read it, you can see that it's actually had a huge uncredited impact on the thinking, art, and writing of quite a wide range of artists and philosophers. Of course, quite a few game designers and interactive dramatists have been influenced by this piece and Wilson's other writings as well.
- Ishtar Rising: Or, Why the Goddess Went to Hell and What to Expect Now That She's Returning - This is excellent. I cannot recommend it enough, especially for women readers.
- Masks of the Illuminati - Historical fiction with a twist.
- New Inquisition
- Principia Discordia , Or, How I Found Goddess and What I Did to Her When I Found Her: The Magnum Opiate of Malacypse the Younger - Here we have the classic Bible of Discordianism.
- Prometheus Rising - This book is excellent. I use it for literary analysis of characters as well as a psychology primer. Interactive dramatists would not go wrong with this book in their library.
- Prometheus Rising
- Quantum Psychology: How Brain Software Programs You and Your World - Yes, this books is, yes, yes, yes . . . well worth the time. Another mainstay for an interactive dramatist's library.
- Reality Is What You Can Get Away With: A Screenplay
- Reality Is What You Can Get Away With
- Religion for the Hell of It
- Right Where You Are Sitting Now: Further Tales of the Illuminati
- Schrodinger's Cat Trilogy: The Universe Next Door, The Trick Top Hat, and Tthe Homing Pigeons - In this series of novels you can see James Joyce's influence on RAW.
- Sex and Drugs: A Journey Beyond Limits
- The Walls Came Tumbling Down
- Wilhelm Reich in Hell - A play.

Spaceways
The Spaceways novels were mostly written by Andrew Offutt under the name John Cleve although others also contributed to the series. The novels are a wild ride of science fiction space opera. They are wonderful pulp and good for some rather racy entertainment. When I was in college, oh so many years ago, I created a tabletop roleplaying campaign based upon the series (using the original Traveller science fiction RPG rules). If I had known about interactive dramas way back when, I would have created some rather risque scenarios based upon the novels. Sadly, the series is out of print and my copies are packed away in a box at the bottom of a pile of junk somewhere in my Mother's garage back in the United States.

General Cultural Texts
These are books of general interest.
- A Distant Mirror: the Calamitous 14th Century - This book has nothing to do with contemporary interactive drama, but in it historian Barbara W. Tuchmann describes a masque activity commonly played in the French Court of the day which sounds very much like current Theatre-Style Interactive Dramas as played by many modern troupes. In the masque, guests were assigned characters they then roleplayed for the duration of the evening - often in freeform. Given specific tasks and goal orientations that are at odds with other players, one would then have the equivalent of the modern interactive drama.
- Dream Park - This is Larry Niven's classic science fiction novel about murder and mayhem that take place at a huge futuristic entertainment complex in which players take on characters and roleplay while going through physically and mentally challenging adventures. Many live roleplayers were inspired by this piece, as well as tabletop RPGers. If you have not read this classic, do so. Someday this is what interactive drama will be like . . . and it will be so kool!
